If Atlanta works then I wouldn’t worry about Georgia State having an unfair advantage given the lack of support the city has for the school. However, I’m sure the schools would feel differently.

I see that Lunardi has JMU as a 11th seed.

Personally, I think ATL is best option..so many flight options. You do not have to play in Hawks arena or ga state.
There are other arenas in that city
Need to make it easy as possible for flights.
Not sure Gville has as many.
I checked on flights from BWI to Pensacola in case I flew down for finals game if App made it. Not that many options.
I did a quick and dirty calculation and Atlanta is pretty much the geographic center of the Sun Belt Conference. Based on that alone, it seems the logical place to put the tournament.
Birmingham is more central than Atlanta. But it doesn't really matter. Sun Belt schools don't really attend their own home games. The tournament would, probably, have had the same attendance if it were held in LA.
True. JMU and App are about the 2 best home attendance this year for their basketball teams.
Marshall and ODU draw well. And let’s not kid ourselves, we are in no position to judge attendance of other schools in basketball. A couple good home gates doesn’t erase years of poor attendance numbers.
That is why I said this year because we have been bad for a long time prior. I know they both had pretty good attendance but I think they were below us both this year. I will be curious to see the final numbers.

I remember looking at Marshall's attendance after their Saturday game with us and they had like 5700 which was about 2k less than we had on our senior night that was on a Friday evening. ODU had 6400 for their senior night.

I'm not rooting for JMU as I don't really think their success ultimately helps the Sunbelt at all. If they make the Sweet 16 and lose they will be forgotten come next season. It's really all about the power conferences and each year the cute stories of the occasional Cinderella. That being said my eyeballs tell me that they are really good and could make a run and an 11 seed is way too low.

If a team has success and sustains it then it absolutely helps the Sun Belt. Look at the attention the West Coast Conference gets due to Gonzaga. They have games on regular TV all the time. If we do well in NIT, JMU makes a NCAA run then we both enter the preseason with high expectations I think you would see more of our games on national TV and than normal. Any team who stands out helps the league somewhat. The more our league is on national TV, listed in polls, and talked about the better the brand name. The Sun Belt should be pulling for them and App both to be successful in the postseason.

I used an app to average the latitude and longitude of each city in the conference and then triangulate the geographic center. It came out less than 10 miles from Atlanta.

I’m not a big fan of one school being the de facto home team though. So, I’m going to change my vote and say somewhere other than Atlanta would be better.

Rooting for JMU to be the cinderalla team. Their fans will be unbearable but….
Could you imagine beating the NCAA Champion 2 times in 1 season?!?! Could never be possible. Or could it! We could always say that. Anything that helps the SBC get 2 bids would be a success and if that takes other teams consistently winning that is fine, except Stink!

How about Charleston? If it's good enough for Luke Combs to play a concert there, it's good enough for me to watch a conference tourney there.

Weeknight games will always pull us down. I’m pleased with over 4,500. I hope it continues to rise, but it’s a good start.

Keep in mind outside of the Auburn game until this team went on a roll didn't our crowds increase. Early season they were pretty typical App basketball crowds.

Over our last six home games we averaged 5957, with a high of 8052 (JMU) to a low of 3804 (Marshall).

If they want to continue doing "destinations" it should be Charleston and a New Orleans/Pensacola. Charleston has 2 capable arenas. Do a west destination and an east destination- Alternate it every 2-3 years.

Or settle for middle of the road for everyone. Nashville, Chat, Atlanta corridor or Maybe Greenville/Bham.

I wouldn’t pull for JMU if they were playing the Soviet Union. Or ISIS.

I was curious when exactly they started to rise. The fact it did rise and with all we did is why I hope we can retain Kerns. I would love to see what we would do next year with most of the team back along with the coaches and some of these newcomers they have signed/committed.

Really hope Huntley changes his mind and returns for a potential NCAA run. And keeping the rest of the guys. If we can do that, watch out.

Just based on the crowds I saw on TV I would have guessed the order was JMU, App and then ODU and Marshall just behind us. I would be curious to see the numbers on the entire season.
In all games we fall to 5th behind So Miss.

Sorry, didn't see the previous post before I posted.

Keep in mind outside of the Auburn game until this team went on a roll didn't our crowds increase. Early season they were pretty typical App basketball crowds.

Over our last six home games we averaged 5957, with a high of 8052 (JMU) to a low of 3804 (Marshall).
Hoping so as well. We could be real good without him but if he returns then we would be a strong favorite to win the title next year.

Arkansas State loses Fields but they have everyone else back. They should be good as well. Madison has quite a few seniors leaving but Edwards is back. Overall the conference could be stronger next year.
