Calling on the 12th Man
Re: Calling on the 12th Man
OH, YEAH! I'm an "oldie" too and proud of it! But in my heart I'm still that 20-ish year old band kid beating my snare drum and yelling at the top of my lungs! I've had player friends tell me that THEY can ACTUALLY HEAR ME! (I sit down at the wall so maybe they really can!) I don't have my drum anymore but my passion for my Mountaineers is POWERFUL and STRONG! I'm also a "DO NOT EVER LEAVE YOUR TEAM 'TIL THE LAST TICK OF THE CLOCK--NO MATTER WHAT!" fan who has blown-out vocal chords by the time the fourth quarter is winding down...sometimes earlier than that.
SATURDAY WILL BE HUGE! THE MOUNTAINEERS NEED US! BE AT "THE ROCK" WITH YOUR LOUDEST VOICE AND YOUR STRONGEST SUPPORT! If you leave your seat before that last tick of the game clock, I WILL PERSONALLY HUNT YOU DOWN!
GO APPS!!!! BEAT WOOFURD!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Calling on the 12th Man
I'm big on the 12th Man, and we absolutely make a difference. But, I kinda disagree with the assessment of our current students. I'm always in my seat in section 213 at 2:30pm to greet the band. I have been very impressed with the student section. By the time the band marches in the student sections are full, except for the two ends. I believe that this year's students are louder and more rambunctious than last year. It's a thrill to watch the antics of the students on the video board. A big part of my game day experience is just watching students, whether they are fans, the band, the ROTC color guard, Yosef, or the cheerleaders and dancers. As fans, we must be ready for this game on Saturday. The Rock must be intimidating! Go Apps!

Re: Calling on the 12th Man
I was a student during the McNeese game and it was the only time I got there late enough to have to sit on the "State" side. Those seats had backs on them and everyone was banging on the back of the seat in front of them. It was loud as hell. Didn't help, obviously, but it was super loud.
For all of you that will be in front of similar seating, want to start the trend again? It would be an easy way to add some serious decibels and would probably catch on pretty quick.

I was in that section as well, banging on the backs of the seats. I'm pretty sure people still do that. I tend to sit in the endzone these days and can sometimes hear rumbling coming from the East stands during big moments. I really doubt there is any way the West side could hear it though.Gonzo wrote:I was a student during the McNeese game and it was the only time I got there late enough to have to sit on the "State" side. Re: Calling on the 12th Man
Just had my group drop from 6 to 2!! Glad I didn't buy all those steaks for the grill yesterday.
I guess we'll bring megaphones to make up the difference.

Be Loud or stay at home. If you don't get loud, then don't say a dang word or make eye contact with us that do. This game is Huge!
Give Em Hell!!
Re: Calling on the 12th Man
I have respect for all of you, and for every fan who yells their lungs out every game. I get into the game early, and get 50 yard line seats in the student section. To be completely honest, there are times this season, as well as last, where I would be the only one yelling within 15 feet when we're on defense. Granted, I'm a couple rows back from the first, but this shouldn't happen anywhere in the 50 yard line section.
I'm going to bring an empty aluminum can full of coins, and bang the H3LL out of it! The past two years, we have not been the flat-out winners that we have been since 2005. This causes a diminishing level of excitement among incoming Freshman. Especially since that trend now includes current Sophomores and Freshman (students entering in 2011). We've got to at least make it to the semi-finals this year! I'll back my team no matter what, but unfortunately the majority of fans in every sport, for every team, are fair-weather.
