Have they ever been asked?
I did mention to Patrick maybe doing focus groups with some of the most difficult people to please to gather feedback. Seems like you could be a viable candidate.
It was suggested before and never followed up on. I won't hold my breath.

It's a shame when expecting a minimal level of competence is looked upon as being difficult to please, but you can call it whatever you need to make yourself feel good.

And just so it's clear, I think Gillin is a fantastic AD. But the little things matter.
Your “thought through” comment was not constructive criticism, it was complaining. And complaining about a situation that you clearly had no idea how it transpired, nor do I think you care to know. If you want to call it “an expected level of competence” to make yourself feel good, ok. I sincerely hope that you are able to take your focus off of the endzone “issue” to enjoy the game. Have a blessed day.
I would have loved to have known, but that isn't an option since no one responds to phone calls or emails. So, all I have to go on is the optics. If that's complaining then so be it. Responding to your customers; that's what I call a minimal level of competence.

There is nowhere in the world I'd rather see a game than in Boone. My heart has been there for 40 years, even when I haven't. I want everyone who goes to have that same feeling. They don't and I know this because I've encouraged people to go to games there only to find out that their experience was not one that would make them want to go back. I can enjoy the game and still know there are problems. It won't be a distraction.

Every day that I wake up is a blessed day.
Honestly you can’t please everyone and the idea that the AD should poll every fan before making a decision is not feasible and kinda silly let’s be honest. We all have opinions but that’s now how any of this works. As far as the UNC game goes it does seem like a unique challenge with what to do with the Carolina fans. And I don’t mean this sarcastically, but where would you put them?

I never suggested that he should. And I agree it would be silly if I had suggested that. I think you need to go back and read all of this to get the context. I was responding to a suggestion that people should offer their input.

I would have put them on the East side, and worked with season ticket holders for one game, being a unique situation and all. But that would have required a ton of communication, so probably not feasible in reality.

Especially when you consider that we sold out season tickets for the first time ever. Obviously, the AD wanted to give our season ticket holders the best permanent seats they could...which was the right decision in my opinion.

This solution required less effort from the staff versus the alternatives and was selected. This can be read two ways so I'm sure it'll upset those that choose to read it that way.

It's not feasible to do that, but I do think it would be feasible to have a suggestions@appstate email address that could be perused for 20 minutes a day just to see if any fan or supporter has any ideas that could be better than what I came up with.

We all know we have a logistical nightmare stadium, from the concourse area to a literal mountain essentially removing any potential for entryways on half our stadium, to money constraints which preclude any "easy fixes." But maybe an idea or two could logistically make things easier without being expensive that our athletic department just has a blind spot to. We all have blind spots. It may not be this way but it constantly seems like we're more focused on putting out fires than preventing fires.

Add this to putting the visitor locker room on the west side so they need to run through our fans and across our field.

The master plan for the stadium has never been planned out, just piecemeal each step. This dates back to the Cobb days so some of this is playing the hand you are dealt as well.
Easy solution, just have the teams switch locker rooms for this one game.

I read it all. And my point was everyone thinks their email and idea is solid gold. I’m sure you aren’t the only one emailing the AD with bulletproof ideas on how to improve every aspect of the stadium. I don’t think displacing season tickets holders for the biggest home game so visitor fans won’t be close to the players for the 30 seconds they run out of the tunnel is maybe the best approach but I could be wrong. And honestly I don’t really want the AD spending their day poring through emails from “fans who have it all figured out”. I love the banter here but when we start getting our feelings hurt because our ideas and egos aren’t being stroked by the athletic department then that becomes a bit much.

So none of that relates to anything I've been talking about. I didn't email the AD. I didn't suggest it. I likely wouldn't. I responded, very specifically, to someone who suggested that people should offer solutions unsolicited. The part about hurt feelings and stroking egos is even further out there.

The only thing I did suggest is that they should consider responding to their customers. I guess that's just too radical to consider now.

And this entire thread started because of the need to respond to a general comment that wasn’t aimed directly at you. Thanks for proving his point.
Didn't you, somewhere back in all of this, point out that it's a message board? I think you did. Don't people respond to comments on message boards? Even ones that aren't addressed to them specifically? I think they do. But you know what? You've convinced me. Everything is perfect and we can all just eat cotton candy and crap rainbows. My mistake for thinking there could be any kind of discussion about anything, or for having any expectations about anything.

I’d like to offer up a solution… IF and I say IF the Marching Mountaineers are also going to be seated in temp bleachers, why not surround the “tunnel” entrance with OUR band? Seems logical to me.

Seems like a win-win. The band surrounds the entrance area and the Heel fans get to hear them all day up close and personal.

It scares me to think that we've known about this game for years and the best we can come up with is our team entering the stadium through the UNC-Cheat fan section. I have little faith left in our athletic department.
I heard Doug Gillin say that they have an alternate entry plan for the FB team. Their normal entry is completely blocked by the bleachers.

It would make sense given the size of the opening in the middle.
