True. That was an awesome game and he played well.
Trey would have had many "unicorn games" I think. But the greatest App in history came on the scene at the point when Trey would have taken over.
Not that it was a mistake in any way, but 1 game against an ACC team didn't give him a chance to prove himself as a starter.

fumbling the first snap of the game out of the back of the endzone surely didn't help matters.

Backup QB Gerard Hardy @ Furman. Rushed for 160 or so that day against the paladins. Can't recall the year.

Trey Elder, Travaris Cadet, and DeAndre Presley will always be among my favorite App players because of their unselfish willingness to make the team better.

The snap was 10 feet over his head. Trey did the best he could to salvage a safety.

He let that Michigan game go to his head. He became more arrogant around campus, and although had some nice yardage some games you're right he kind of was a bust. I remember after he got drafted and he came back to Boone for a bye week or something him and Jerome Touchstone got into a fight at good ole Char.
I remember riding down with Coach Moore in the elevator in Baton Rouge. I talked to him about the game and the fact that Jackson was going to Tampa. I live in Tampa so I was happy. I made the comment that I was surprised that he went as high as he did. Moore without batting an eyelash, he responded "so are we".

I agree with you. Although I do think those three might fit the category in terms of being strong starters who didn't quite live up to expectations, the expectations being set were incredibly high because of the comparisons with AE. Elder would have been a very solid QB but just didn't have the magic to get us to the championship. It's not like he disappeared though. He brought in his share of W's when AE was injured and we had to rely on him. Cadet was never a true QB and took a long route to find where he finally belonged (QB, WR and only one year at RB which is the position he made in the NFL). Presley again suffered by comparison with AE and he played at a time when anything short of a National Title was falling short of expectations.

Cadet and Presley were both attempts to re-create AE. We were putting "athletes" at QB in hopes they were emerge like AE did. They both had flashes but were playing out of position. Just imagine what they could have contributed if they had played RB and WR their whole career and actually developed! Elder contributed a ton to the team. He just wasn't the superstar we demanded. All three of these guys were outstanding young men and made us proud while they wore the black and gold!

I have witnessed some of the greats at App State, Dino Hackett, John Settle, Dexter Coakley,AE etc...but without a doubt the best one I have saw at ASU would have been Sean Price. I have been around football all my life and I feel that I have been decent at evaluating talent. Price, if he wanted to work and was not doing crazy, insane things could have been a first round draft pick. 6'5 guys that can run and jump and have great hands do not grow on trees. His one game at Georgia Southern alone was WAY more that what Dexter Jackson did at Michigan. Price won us that game by himself and helped create the rep. of quarterback Jackson by catching his inaccurate passes. When Price was not into playing with effort or feeling crazy, he was a total liability to the team and school. I would say that Sean Price is THE unicorn for our school. The most talent wasted that most of us will ever see. If he had AE's work ethic and mental makeup he may have been the next Randy Moss but, alas we will never know what could have been.

I would go as far as to say that Sean Price was THE main reason we even had a winning record in Jerry's last year. He won us the game against Samford to go along with what he did at the Stink.
