I agree with you. Although I do think those three might fit the category in terms of being strong starters who didn't quite live up to expectations, the expectations being set were incredibly high because of the comparisons with AE. Elder would have been a very solid QB but just didn't have the magic to get us to the championship. It's not like he disappeared though. He brought in his share of W's when AE was injured and we had to rely on him. Cadet was never a true QB and took a long route to find where he finally belonged (QB, WR and only one year at RB which is the position he made in the NFL). Presley again suffered by comparison with AE and he played at a time when anything short of a National Title was falling short of expectations.
Cadet and Presley were both attempts to re-create AE. We were putting "athletes" at QB in hopes they were emerge like AE did. They both had flashes but were playing out of position. Just imagine what they could have contributed if they had played RB and WR their whole career and actually developed! Elder contributed a ton to the team. He just wasn't the superstar we demanded. All three of these guys were outstanding young men and made us proud while they wore the black and gold!
