Calm down.............. Unlike other programs(UNC/UL) WE HAVE A LARGE Reach of APP STATE grads in the coaching pool. Just wait to start crying if DG makes bad decision.

Auburn just fired their OC. It either frees him up for App or makes him a candidate for promotion.

Why wait to cry? Starting to complain about the hire now helps us avoid the holiday rush.Woodstovegang wrote: ↑Mon Dec 03, 2018 6:26 pmCalm down.............. In 2013, if we were offered a chance to go 35-6 in our first 5 years in the Sun Belt, win 3 bowls and win 3 SB Conference championships, but we could only have Satt for 6 years, we would have all taken that. We have achieved so much more than anyone could have imagined since we joined the SB.
As long as DG brings someone “from the tree,” we’ll be fine.
Good luck, Coach Satt! Thanks for the great run!

Re: Scott Gone
No benefit. I don't wish this for Scott but I just see it coming. Their boosters will have unreasonable expectations on him that he can't live up to. Go read their boards. You may as well call him "Not Jeff Brohm" and if he just goes 7-5 or 8-4 by year 4 or 5 they will want to move on. I believe Scott will improve them and be a fine coach but they have unfair expectations.ah59396 wrote: ↑Mon Dec 03, 2018 5:25 pmI’m not sure what benefit you get from predicting failure for someone that led us through what could have been a very rough patch.AppStFan1 wrote: ↑Mon Dec 03, 2018 5:10 pmSlump? No he wants as much money as he can make and he had no loyalty here. You need to read up on Jimmy Sexton. Sexton is money hungry and I guarantee he talked Scott into this. They feel if he turns Louisville around in right direction that the big time offer is coming.
Prediction: In 4-5 years from now Scott will be telling close friends he regretted leaving App. Mark it down. He won't be the first coach who left that has said that.
I wish him all the success. Unless it’s in Apps way.

Re: Scott Gone
The SBC is not a very good league so I don't think what we have done is more than expected. Had Scott only won 6-7 games a year in the SBC I would have been wanting him to go after year 3. The expectation every year is seriously 9 wins or more and, honestly, if it is less than 10 or 11 (losses only to P5 or top tier AAC) then we should be disappointed.AppRolls wrote: ↑Mon Dec 03, 2018 6:47 pmIn 2013, if we were offered a chance to go 35-6 in our first 5 years in the Sun Belt, win 3 bowls and win 3 SB Conference championships, but we could only have Satt for 6 years, we would have all taken that. The standard before Scott got here was to compete for conference championships and he did what is expected. The next coach is expected to compete for the SBC title every year. I want the SBC title game to be called the "Boone Invitational" because we host it every year.
Now, just so you see I'm not unrealistic say we were in the AAC I would be happy with 7-9 wins a year. If we were in the ACC or SEC I would be thrilled to win 6-8 games every year early on.
Alabama is boom or bust when it comes to the national title and that is the case for us when it comes to the SBC title.

Re: Scott Gone
Yep any old coach could have done what Scott did. So, it really doesn't matter who we hire.
Sorry, I don't take anything for granted. I'm grateful for what Scott accomplished while here. And I'm not going to be butt hurt because he decided to take on a new challenge.

Re: Scott Gone
Hey can someone scroll back through the football threads (like about 4 years ago) and find that BS with the for sale signs, the entry upon entry saying that we need to fire Satt. Y’all remember those right? I am perfectly fine with him leaving as long as he doesn’t screw us. Can’t see that happening.

Re: Scott Gone
I don't think he'll "screw us" more than any other Head Coach who left one place for another. We'll lose some players, whether to Louisville, or other schools simply because that's the way things are nowadays.

Re: Scott Gone
Some of you don’t have a clue about the ambition he has as a coach, the potential to be out of a job every couple of years, the 80 hour weeks and every husband’s/fathers desire to secure life for the family. He paid his dues making zip, chump change as an assistant and 6 good years as a head coach. He EARNED this opportunity and no one should begrudge him this. So stop with the “selling out” comments. Rise Above applies to us too.

An App State alum who becomes great at his profession and loves Boone but leaves for an opportunity to make more money? Pretty sure It’s happened before.

Also worth restating it’s not only about the money. I’m sure the man didn’t become an NCAA head coach with the dream of heading to the R&L Carriers Bowl one day.
He’s brought us a long way, now he’s taking his shot with a school that can provide him an opportunity we cannot. Who can blame him!?

That’s a very unrealistic outlook. I’m amazed at the amount of condenscension that is shown towards other G5 opponents on this board. Every school we line up against has D1 scholarship athletes with every intention of beating our behinds. What happened here will likely not be replicated unless NDSU makes the jump.

Re: Scott Gone
Starting tomorrow he's playing for a National Championship, something he wouldn't be doing for the foreseeable future in Boone. I agree money is the hook but the drive to achieve at the highest level is right up there. Having said all that I admit I was one of the naive ones who thought he might be a lifer.ah59396 wrote: ↑Mon Dec 03, 2018 7:42 pmAlso worth restating it’s not only about the money. Re: Scott Gone
He's gone and he will have a very short leash with that program. They are talent deprived and he will have his work cut out for him. I hope he knocks it out of the park in Louisville and beyond, although I would rather have seen Satterfield take Ga Tech or some other program. The only thing Louisville has going for them is money.
By the same token whoever is hired at App State will have a very short leash. They inherit a loaded program with a culture of success. The coach has to be embrace the ASU culture and not try to mold it into something else.
Going to be interesting.
