Re: New Head Coach - Eliah Drinkwitz
I didn't expect this guy...but seeing how State was ranked, went 9-3 and is Gator Bowl bound I"m assuming he was a big part of the team's success this year?

Re: New Head Coach - Eliah Drinkwitz
Exactly. Jimbo Fisher left FSU for A&M. There are a handful of programs in the FBS that are immune from losing their HC to another program. And those programs usually see assistants get gutted every other year. This is the nature of college football. If Drink does well in Boone he will go somewhere else. We should all understand this by now. Welcome to App coach Drink!!!The Rock wrote: ↑Thu Dec 13, 2018 9:33 amEveryone saying our next coach will use us as a stepping stone ; what do you think Satterfield did?
He was a little more selective that others may have been, but that was due more to his family situation than his loyalty to App.
He used his success here to get a bigger opportunity elsewhere and jumped on it. Nothing wrong with that, but let’s keep that in mind when thinking about Coach Drink’s hire and any future App hires.

Re: New Head Coach - Eliah Drinkwitz
On paper and at first glance, seems like a great hire. But as we all know, the other 50% (maybe more) of his success depends on his staff. This is more interesting to me.
Knowing he’s the Head Coach now, who do you think he’ll retain or hire?
Horton, McNeil? Haha sorry had to go there to lighten up the mood.

I hope he retains some of the coaches we have left, but I kind of doubt it's going to happen that way.

I'm downright excited about this hire! We get a successful OC not co-OC or run/pass game coordinator. We're getting the guy that called the plays and is the QB position coach as well. Fills two openings. Don't know who he may want to retain or bring with him, but so far so good.

Re: New Head Coach - Eliah Drinkwitz
I believe Drink will understand the culture here due to his time at Boise State and also time working with Ledford. NC State runs a similar blocking and running game to App so there shouldn't be much transition for our offense, but like some have mentioned, he likes to air it out a little more than we have been doing and from my coaching experience, I think that is great. Since the offense has similarities, I'd imagine keeping Clark on as OC is a strong possibility. I really think we need to keep Ivey and Jones, if possible, we can't change up the defense this coming year. We may can transition away from it, but I don't think he'll be here long enough to see it through, so he really should not mess with the defensive structure and needs someone on staff to oversee it. If we can't keep those guys, we really need to try to bring Sloan or Woody back. Maybe with the coaching change at Gtech, Woody would be available. Collins historically runs a 4-3, so not sure he'd keep Woody.

Re: New Head Coach - Eliah Drinkwitz
Our quality AD kept it out of the press and the gossip mill. Because of that, we now have a high quality hire. Congrats DG and welcome Coach Drinkwitz.
Now, let's get on with it.
We have a bowl game to win, and one of the best damn football programs in college football to keep on the tracks.
Keep Ivey....
Forward!
GO MOUNTAINEERS!

Re: New Head Coach - Eliah Drinkwitz
I hope he retains all that want to stay here. In my opinion what made satterfield so successful here is the ability to hire/replace great coaches with great coaches. The pieces that are left at app are all great coaches, and I think will provide continuity to this team and make the transition more seamless.he still has several voids to fill with his own guys, but i really hope we leave our remaining coaches here. Especially defensively. we don't need to reinvent the wheel on a top ranked defensive squad. don't fix something that isn't brokensixtoes9134 wrote: ↑Thu Dec 13, 2018 9:50 amI hope he retains some of the coaches we have left, but I kind of doubt it's going to happen that way.

Re: New Head Coach - Eliah Drinkwitz
When I rolled out of bed to check who our coach was my first thought was who? But the more I look into Eli the more excited I get. I think he will come in with a stacked team and do well. He has been successful everywhere he has been. And like others have said, he likes to air it out more. Haven’t we all wanted that this season? Let’s hope he can keep Ivey and Jones to maintain our monster defense. He checks all the boxes.
Welcome Coach to the App family. Can’t wait to watch you beat UNC and SC next year!

Re: New Head Coach - Eliah Drinkwitz
Maybe Drink was DG's choice from the beginning, and Ledford thought going to UL was better than staying at NC State with new OC?
