This is classic heels, they’ll go back to pretending they are very superior the moment they get the opportunity.
If we win they almost have to schedule another series.
They have no excuse to lose to us except if they do they have to admit that Brown's staff is not that good and they have recruited poorly. Unless they feel that way they should be confident.
You bring up a good point. What if we win, would they schedule us in the future? Have to think they don't if they lose the series with us.

We weren’t ready. Not even close. We still had FCS players on that roster. This is a different team. We’re ready this time!

That game had one particular play that killed us. This is what I remember, Marcus Cox breaks off a beautiful 80 yard run for a TD - I believe that would have made the score 21-14... however the play was called back on a bogus holding call and Marcus pulled a hamstring as he was driving into the end zone. Double Whammy

Yes. Not saying we would have picked up the victory, but it was a major turn of events.

If Miami happens again this staff will get lit up. That CAN NOT happen.
Even though Miami had great talent, the App coaching staff got completely outclassed that day in 2016, especially in the first quarter. Those bubble screens just killed the defense.
Only other time App coaching got outclassed that bad since then was the first Louisiana game last season.

Don't care for the word - "outclassed" - out-coached, out-gameplanned, etc., OK
Personally, the U just had much more talent than APP. We were still playing with guys who were recruited when we were still FCS -

Meh. We were out talented in 2016. You pick your poison. Play off to keep everyone in front of you.

they practically ran the same play to the TE every time and we did nothing to stop it.

I don't believe this about Downs until he actually does not walk out on the field but this is interesting news. Coaches are no doubt prepping for him anyway. The replacements are 4-star players who never gave App State a look so from talent should be no drop-off, just experience.
Some of the injury news from IC on the 247 Sports website.
"Wide Receiver Josh Downs
-Since Saturday night sources have conveyed growing pessimism that Downs will play vs. App State on Saturday in Boone. According to multiple sources, he has not been taking part in live activity this week in practice.
-One source told Inside Carolina that Downs was noticeably hobbled and wouldn’t be surprised if he missed more than one week of action.
-Another source noted that Downs has been in position drills, but not the live practice reps.
-With the App State game now less 48 hours away from kickoff, most of the sources close to the program indicated they’d be surprised if Downs plays.
Cornerback Tony Grimes
-The initial intel early in the week made it seem doubtful that Tony Grimes would play on Saturday vs. App State. That has since changed - optimism has grown as the week progressed.
-Grimes was in a yellow jersey (limited contact) early in the week and his availability has increased during the week.
-On Thursday, two different sources told Inside Carolina that they believe Grimes will play on Saturday vs. App State. There is cautious optimism that he will be able to go."

If Downs is even somewhat questionable he should not play - this game means nothing to UNC winning the ACC - Wasn't Grimes suffering a concussion? - if so, the initial decision has to be from medical experts - correct?

This why I am trying so hard to temper my expectation. I know a lot of our fans are uber confident and expect us to win. I expect us to win. But there is probably a higher chance that we get blown out vs App blowing out the tarholes. To be frank, we looked bad in 2 of our big games last year. Who knows how the UNC defense will actually look when they do more than vanilla cover 2 or how Maye will perform under pressure. There are a lot of unknowns in the game such as our defense and special teams that we have counted on in years past. I am excited to see our offense operate under Barbay. I think he will get us back to the Drinkwitz style offense where we had the most recent success. We needed more creativity. Fingers crossed we have some new dawgs on defense.
Booo

Agreed. As for Grimes they are guessing online it is a concussion but there has been no confirmation of it.

I think we all appreciate it! They ask on their board why they are hated by some of our fans but then make comments such as "they have a message board", "their fans are delusional", and take pot shots at our education and talk about how we can only win if we get lucky and they are depleted. They have some nice fans who seem to have a good attitude but for a team with no titles who has under performed the have some arrogant and elitist fans who just have excuses if they lose.

To be fair, the guys from the BGP pod is why people hate us. Those guys are the most pompous and least self aware fans I’ve ever heard.

Just one of them is. He's up there with David Ware on requiring to hear himself speak for way too long. AJ is the most arrogant, pompous "fan" we have.
Big C is the damn man.

I’ll give you that, Big C doesn’t bother me much, but the other guy drives me nuts.

Did notice today listening to BGP that Hennigan said he had heard Downs wouldn’t play. But that was recorded on Monday I believe.

From a official unofficial source…Downs has been ruled out.
