Re: Moving On to ECU
Looking at the game stats is thoroughly confusing me. They ran a lot of plays but their ypp is atrocious. They had 22 third down plays. The average yardage on those 22 plays was 3rd and almost 7, (6.8). The 12 they made were an average of 6.08. The average for non conversion was 8.66. What I take from that is that they aren’t very good on 1st and 2nd downs. Their overall conversation rate is way above the mean, so how much of that success can be attributed to the ODU defense?BambooRdApp wrote: ↑Thu Sep 12, 2024 6:10 amHa! I did too. They beat a very overmatched Norfolk St team in week 1. Against ODU, they ran the ball 51 times for 183 yards. 3.6 avg. just like with ETSU, 63 yards came on one play. They had 14 drives and ran 89 plays. 5 drives ended in punts, 4 INTs and a botched end of the half possession. Two TDs and two FGs with one ending a drive that started at the ODU 20. The OL gave up 3 sacks and 8 TFLs. I think that they will get better through the year but the body of work thus far doesn’t lend me to declare them as any thing more than a work in progress.ericsaid wrote: ↑Wed Sep 11, 2024 8:13 pmWhere do you guys get the idea that ECU is subpar? They have offensive weapons, a veteran offensive line, a true four star corner, a seasoned front four, and a head coach with a lineage of winning.Pikapp79 wrote: ↑Mon Sep 09, 2024 8:39 amIf you lose two out of 3 to start the season you are staring at a 4-5 loss campaign. The pressure will ramp up with every loss to hire a new coach. That wears on everyone. Plus if you can’t beat a subpar ECU team the inevitable is a matter of time. You can’t underestimate the Clemson beat down.DenverOfTheEast wrote: ↑Sun Sep 08, 2024 7:20 pmYou guys are nuts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
why is it a must win?
3 weeks ago everyone would say App will be 1-1 after week 2.
On the flip side, go on a run and keep it to 2-3 losses and win the conference and the job is safe for possibly a new contract. Huge year for coach.
They were garbage last year, but this is the transfer portal era. They were only missing an offense last year and they now are back to the Air Raid.
down the field. Our DBs are going to have to play up or near line of scrimmage or Garcia will have a field day.

Re: Moving On to ECU
ECU is better this year than last, but so is App, despite the result last weekend. ECU might have a good defense, but they aren't even on the same planet with Clemson. This game won't be a romp for App, but I'm really just not worried about it. After last week, I think Greenville isn't going to seem like much for App.

Re: Moving On to ECU
I was muti-tasking while it was on. It seemed the predominant pass play on 1st and 2nd was outside not too far from line of scrimmage....then they worked the field down the middle around the hash marks or to outside...most of the time to just around the first down markers. It seemed they had less success on extreme outside runs ..but more success off tackle or an inside run that bounced off tackle. If I remember correctly, one of the long runs was off tackle where the DE got caught blocking inside down the line and left the hole wide open.... similar to etsu long run in US.AppSt94 wrote: ↑Thu Sep 12, 2024 7:35 amLooking at the game stats is thoroughly confusing me. Typically it's the away team's refs. And LOL at thinking ECU ever gets home cooking. AAC refs are equal opportunity offenders.

I’m not sure if that’s a good thing for us.blunderbuss wrote: ↑Thu Sep 12, 2024 10:41 amTypically it's the away team's refs. And LOL at thinking ECU ever gets home cooking. AAC refs are equal opportunity offenders.

Re: Moving On to ECU
I watched a portion of the ECU game as well. I noticed that their offensive line seemed to struggle against pressure. They do play fast, but they didn’t strike me as any kind of juggernaut.
Defensively, they seem to keep their corners 10 yards off the line and almost always have a deep safety. Hopefully our receivers can take advantage of all that cushion, and that should also make it easier to run the ball.
Hard to know how good they are considering their opponents so far, they haven’t exactly played quality teams.
App needs this game badly to avoid a bad start to the season. It will be disappointing if we’re not ready to get it done.

KRob #2 in your program, #1 in your heart on Saturday is smiling watching film. Clean releases against G5 caliber players, my pick for player of the game.

We may hear again if we lose that "all of our goals are still in front of us"KentHogan wrote: ↑Thu Sep 12, 2024 12:02 pmI watched a portion of the ECU game as well. Re: Moving On to ECU
Anybody heard from Gorilla lately? We were thinking about bringing the octagon down to Dowdy-Ficklen so he could go a few rounds with Clark pre-game. But the kid couldn’t raise enough dough to hop a Greyhound over from Utah…so that plan crapped the bed.

Re: Moving On to ECU
Sorry to say this, but that uni reveal could’ve been better. The good news: had Hollifield fallen overboard, he would’ve been OK…Price lake is like 3 feet deep

Maybe that should have been the script to make it more exciting.

He will be back as soon as we have our first incomplete pass spewing about how bad Clark is, being a d!ck to people, blah blah blah.
