Exactly, it's the life of a coach. And this Christmas he is probably going to get to spend more time with his family than he ever has before. He's not going to miss Christmas plays or choir recitals or whatever to go coach a football game in a literal hurricane like last year. I'd say that's a real nice silver lining.hapapp wrote: ↑Tue Dec 03, 2024 1:18 pmNo one is saying he can't do that. Its not about the money, its about the disruption to his family's life. I really feel like you are missing the point. The strain isn’t due from a fiscal need. If you wanted to coach high school ball again, you have numerous options within driving distance of your house. Getting fired is bad enough. Getting fired from your Alma mater has to be rough. That aside, he can’t just go down the street and get another high paying coaching job. He has to uproot his family who all have established lives and friends. If you haven’t had to do it then you can’t understand. Money makes it easier on the pocketbook, but there are mental hurdles as a human being that money can’t wipe away.MrCraig wrote: ↑Tue Dec 03, 2024 1:13 pmThe man made over $750k a year since 2020 and he's getting a $500k buyout. But, he also is likely to be in the process of uprooting his family. No doubt, he'll be fine but it won't likely be a happy holiday season for he and his family.MrCraig wrote: ↑Tue Dec 03, 2024 1:21 pmExactly, it's the life of a coach. Re: Pete Thamel- App State Fires Shawn Clark
MY POINT is that he doesn't have to do any of that stuff! He's made enough money that if he was just a little bit smart with it, he could take a significantly lower paying job and not upend anything for his family. He lost his job, and that sucks, but he's in a much more advantageous position for himself and his family than most of his fellow App State grads. He'll be fine.AppSt94 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 03, 2024 1:23 pmI really feel like you are missing the point. The strain isn’t due from a fiscal need. Live is full of risks, take the ones that are worth it.
Clark got to experience what 99% of coaches with aspirations never get a shot at. He should be proud he was willing to take a chance on himself.
There is always a positive light even in the dimmest of nights. God speed Coach.

Re: Pete Thamel- App State Fires Shawn Clark
There are usually provisions within the agreement about when and how the buyout will be paid, it is usually not a lump sum. The BO can also be prorated if coach gets another job. Quit this pissing match and let things play out.

Shawn and his family are going to be fine.
Growing up in a military household I went to three different elementary, three middle, and two high schools.
My mom certainly wasn't paid HC money or given a buyout.

Thank you JT. Half of all alumni (about 68,000) x $20/month x 12 months = a little over $16,000,000 which would fund Yosef and all scholarships. Then other monies would be centered on salaries. It's a shame alumni won't give at a little something.JTApps1 wrote: ↑Mon Dec 02, 2024 9:09 pmThis is true, but everyone that cares about App State athletics should donate something to Yosef Club.ASUTodd wrote: ↑Mon Dec 02, 2024 4:58 pmPeople don't have to give to YC to have opinion. NO HIGH HORSE HERE (using all caps on purpose.......). Just stating my opinion just as you have yours. What's really sad is that as a Mountaineer you cheer the misfortune and demise of a fellow Mountaineer. Sad....ASUTodd wrote: ↑Tue Dec 03, 2024 8:46 amHow's the view up on that high horse?scatman77 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 03, 2024 8:40 amNo you don't have to give but your opinion is meaningless to me. If someone complains about the outcome of an election but doesn't vote then they have no right to complain. Same thing with the YC. What really disappoints me is the number of Mountaineer fans who on social media openly cheer (loudly with all CAPS) that he's finally fired and out on the street. Forget the fact his family is affected and the team is affected. Show some grace and class like a true Mountaineer. Some of the stuff I read was identical to a lot of stuff on the stink's pages and JMU. Mountaineers should be way above that.ASUTodd wrote: ↑Mon Dec 02, 2024 4:58 pmPeople don't have to give to YC to have opinion.
