If they are coming simply for the money , they can go elsewhere. If they are coming to become part of something I cherish, and have helped build over decades, welcome aboard.

For the top players in the portal it is about $$$. The large majority though, likely playing time or something else.MrCraig wrote: ↑Fri Dec 27, 2024 4:16 pmLike so many other things in our world, the blame is being put in the wrong place. But no, let's get mad at the young men who are exchanging athletic talent for money. THEY are the problem.
On3 has annual portal stats… overall count of players that enter the portal, # that transfer, # that withdraw and # that never land any where.
Not counting current year, but prior 3 years something like 3,000 total players entered annually. Of those, ~1,000 / year never landed anywhere.
As someone else pointed out, only a select few of our players that enter move to p4 - Noel/McLeod come to mind. The overwhelming majority land in a lesser G5 or FCS school. Hard time believing those moves are for the almighty dollar.

100% correct. I've stated on here I'm pretty sure my money will be heading strictly to the academic side. I'm blasting the "fans" going after these young men. Its getting absurd.Pikapp79 wrote: ↑Fri Dec 27, 2024 4:21 pmI’m not mad at them. As a matter of fact don’t blame them. The new model is a disaster for fans of mid to lower tier programs and a payday for players.MrCraig wrote: ↑Fri Dec 27, 2024 4:16 pmLike so many otherthings in our world, the blame is being put in the wrong place. If a guy is first team , it’s likely money. Certainly not all , but the vast majority are looking to cash out short term. I will be interested to see the graduation rates going forward. Sacrificing the future is generally not a great strategy.

I wasn't "going after" or "shitting" on anyone. If my son were in the same situation, I might advise him to leave but I am certain I would not advise him to send a self-promoting "thank you" tweet as he is walking out the door.appdaze wrote: ↑Fri Dec 27, 2024 4:29 pm100% correct. Thanking your employer for employing you is not a bad thing. Would you rather they tell you to F off? Seriously. Nothing wrong with thanking your now previous team on your way out the door. Some of y'all are so petty. They are being courteous and professional by thanking us. get over yourselves.Appst86 wrote: ↑Fri Dec 27, 2024 4:40 pmI wasn't "going after" or "shitting" on anyone. Re: App Transfer Portal 2025 - OUT
So, why all the fuss? Why has almost every thread on this site devolved into how "the game has changed" and "they've ruined college football," when most of these players aren't making mega bucks and most of them are just scrubbing out when they enter "the portal"?AppDawg wrote: ↑Fri Dec 27, 2024 4:27 pmFor the top players in the portal it is about $$$. I've said it before, most of this stuff doesn't bother me that much. The game really hasn't changed THAT much, it's all just above the table and out in the open. However, I know that isn't a popular opinion.

No chance this guy is in the portal because he has no idea who his position coach is, who the d coordinator will be, etc? We just jump to "Go on, get out! Your just chasing money!!!"

Read this elsewhere… and I kinda like it. Do away with the scholarship.
Pay all 415 athletes $50,000 annually (full cost of attendance) and make it up to the player can choose how to spend. $50k is a number provided by our Athletic Dept. Upon entering into this agreement, Provide the caveats:
Bring the value of an education back
Into the discussion.
This is kinda like a High Deductible Medical Plan… gives the consumer greater visibility into the true cost of medical services being provided.

Bringing the value of the educational opportunity afforded, however it’s done , to the forefront of the discussion, resonates here.

The system in its current form is designed to eat itself. Once the schools get involved with in house NIL, the lawyers will line up for gender equity in the distribution of NIL. The playing field is going to get leveled across tiers and that creates parity. No way the Texas’ and Ohio States’ of college football are going to settle for 8-4 seasons.

“One last pay day”, isn’t the education supposed to get them a lifetime of pay days? Funny how when things get tuff and fans run for the exit they are bad fans but when things get a little bumpy and players leave they are just great young men trying to better themselves.appdaze wrote: ↑Fri Dec 27, 2024 4:03 pmSure are a lot of grown, supposedly mature, adults on here shitting on these young men who are trying to get a pay day using the skills they have. I guess you don't bother reading everything as I don't criticize fans for leaving. I'm criticizing those going after these young men for trying to find a pay day. I've already stated my own monetary position. I do believe fans are very spoiled at this point and are lashing out at the wrong people. It's like if the price of burgers go up then you go beat up the teenager at the cash register and tell them they are the problem and they should stop being so greedy to require burger prices to be higher. Then if those same workers leave for a better paying job you call them greedy pieces of shit and they should just piss off.Mjohn1988 wrote: ↑Fri Dec 27, 2024 6:14 pm“One last pay day”, isn’t the education supposed to get them a lifetime of pay days? I don't think a lot of them do honestly, but that doesn't mean that many many many will try. Remember the NBA draft when they let highschoolers join? A lot of 17-18 year olds wanted their futures thinking they were nba ready and then couldn't play college ball and busted out completely. I think a lot of portal is that outside of those transferring for family/personal reasons.

Fair enough and maybe you don’t read everything I post. At this point I actually blame the universities for getting involved in NIL and taking transfers they shouldn’t. But don’t post some heartfelt BS while you leave. And by the way, these guys already got a pay day, it’s called a free education and I chip in for that pay day.appdaze wrote: ↑Fri Dec 27, 2024 6:21 pmI guess you don't bother reading everything as I don't criticize fans for leaving.
