Re: Portal time 25-26
Man, I've BEEN saying this. NIL hasn't drastically changed the financial landscape of college sports like folks want to believe. It's just moved the money from going to programs to going directly to players. The haves still have and the have-nots still haven't. There are a few programs that are experiencing new success because deep-pocketed donors are giving tons to NIL (Texas Tech is prime example), but most everything has really stayed the same.t4pizza wrote: ↑Tue Dec 16, 2025 10:03 pmNow those are figures that make much more sense than the nonsense NIL boogey man figures that have been posted on many threads here. Sure doesn't look like they are paying their OLmen 190k a year. Nor does it seem like their NIL is so much greater than ours that we just can't compete. Sadly, they have just done it better. We say we do more with less, but clearly they do it much better with less than we do. This is an administration issue, we have to get better at that level.AppState222 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 16, 2025 5:37 pmSome interesting JMU NIL numbers, reported in the athletic, based of FOIA requests,
"James Madison’s revenue-sharing budget is a little more than $1 million, according to its payroll data. That figure is split among 34 players (whose names were redacted). Two players are making $65,000, and four are making $7,500 each. Four men’s basketball players were set to make more than the highest-paid football player.
…
Here’s a stunning way to contextualize it: What JMU paid its head coach and entire roster (just under $1.9 million) is less than Oregon paid its defensive coordinator, Tosh Lupoi ($2 million). Ducks head coach Dan Lanning’s $10.4 million salary is three times the Dukes’ annual football operating expenses ($3.2 million).
James Madison’s budget is competitive in the Sun Belt, but it’s not No. 1. That was Coastal Carolina ($17.3 million in football revenue)."
While I'm on this topic, I think the transfer portal is similar. It has allowed players freedom of movement, but on average there really hasn't been that much change in the number of players changing schools. The difference is, before the portal a lot of guys would just drop out or scrub off the team. Now, they "enter the portal."
Also, someone correct me if I'm wrong, but players are allowed to come back out of the portal and stay on the team, right? I wouldn't be surprised to see some of these guys posting AI-generated Instagram posts about "After much prayer, thought, and discussion with my family and coaches, I've decided I will be returning to Appalachian State for the 26-27 season."

My understanding is that they are allowed to come back to the school they tried to ditch, but it's at the discretion of the school to allow or not allow them back on the team.MrCraig wrote: ↑Wed Dec 17, 2025 9:11 amMan, I've BEEN saying this. I can’t predict the future but we still have the two kickers who played this season in De Freitas and McVay don’t we?

Re: Portal time 25-26
Started new jobs 6 times in 30 years. Only once did I leave somewhere voluntarily. The life of a government contractor, sometimes the contracts don't get kept when the rebids go out. Been at my current employer almost 6 years now. No plans to leave but it all depends on the business development team doing their jobs.Cro-Magnon App wrote: ↑Tue Dec 16, 2025 2:30 pmA quick poll on staying with the job. Re: Portal time 25-26
I quoted the JMU relevant parts because I think thats the most interesting to us, but if anyone wants to read the full article (and has a subscription), https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/689203 ... ies-money/.
The writer does provide the expected caveats that some of the information is a few years old because thats the most recent data, some schools didnt answer the FOIA requests, and all schools report their finances differently.
I do think some has changed and it isnt just status quo from pre NIL/portal era, Oklahoma paid players 32 mil across the dept, Texas Tech fb roster costs around 25 mil.

Re: Portal time 25-26
It was an actual OL as the TE(will have to go back to look at #), Galloway was an H back offset of the TE that leaked out behind the Defense. Formation was good minus Dozier not being on the LOS.moonshine wrote: ↑Tue Dec 16, 2025 3:36 pmIf Dozier was supposed to be on the line, I’m not a fan of the formation. Larkins was the TE on the LOS on Dozier’s side. If Dozier is responsible for being on the LOS, that locks Larkin in as a blocker only and ineligible as a receiver. Seems counterintuitive to tip your hand on the formation and if the TE is a blocker only, why not use an actual OL player if the TE position is obviously blocking?CoachRob wrote: ↑Tue Dec 16, 2025 12:15 pmI could be wrong, but wasn't Dozier the WR who didn't line up on the LOS causing the penalty on the 4th & 1 TD pass vs Arky State? I went back to look at that play, Galloway was a wing off of an extra OL as the TE, meaning the flanker needed to be on the LOS for a legal formation. Great play call with the wing leaking out off of a split zone look. Couldn't see the #, but all the WR needed to do was have enough focus to lineup correctly and stand there.
I know he dropped an easy wide open TD pass that would have sealed the Coastal game. I know the kid is talented, but seen enough drops & lack of focus plays to move on to someone else.

Ok this is my first “Who”?
Never heard of this person. Was he on the team?
It has me wondering, can someone fake a portal entry? Haha. Can’t be that hard.
