If the Arnett news came from App's side, that would be disappointing.
BGP will now claim this as another Ken Dorsey and why we shouldn't have fired Clark.

Re: Dowell's assistants
All this talk about resources actually makes me less inclined to donate more. It's got to be a tough sell. I'll still donate for those few that actually appreciate the scholarship, but why in the world would I donate 5 million when the bigger schools are most definitely going to donate 6 million to steal the person and then we're in the exact same boat had I not donated a penny. PS I do not have 5 million to donate, but lesser dollar values the point still stands. College football is so cooked. What a mess.

All the remaining SCar assistant coaches got extensions and raises. Guess we're not getting any of them. https://www.on3.com/teams/south-carolin ... ing-shula/

Not saying I like it (I don’t), but what UNLV did with Arnett was clever. They waited until DLO/App put a salary number out there and set the “opening bid” on him. After that, the Rebs knew what they would need to bid to get him to forget about the mountain and head for the desert.

My best friends father is the opposite. He went to Western for undergrad, and Wake Law. While he supports WCU, he doesn’t have anything named for him there. At Wake he has several things.AppDawg wrote: ↑Tue Dec 17, 2024 5:41 pmHow many of those Doctors & Lawyers went to Undergrad at Wake? Have a very longtime Family Friend that did… but as he says he went to “Trade” School (law) at UNC. He holds zero allegiance to chapel hill. Their support goes to Wake.

If he’s getting $1.2m buyout check from Miss State though minus whatever he’s paid elsewhere (which is what I’ve seen), why does it matter? I doubt any G5 is paying over $1.2m for a coordinator.Bootsy wrote: ↑Tue Dec 17, 2024 6:34 pmNot saying I like it (I don’t), but what UNLV did with Arnett was clever. Definitely can’t argue with that! Everyone keeps talking money though and it seems like that wouldn’t matter for the next few years for him. Admittedly I don’t know all of the details of his buyout from Miss State, but that is just what I’ve seen.

Could be a lot of things. Probably money related.
Sucks. More I think of it more I think the leak to football scoop had to come from his side. He’s the one that benefits. App would get the splash once a contact was signed too.

I agree, undergrad holds the passion of most fans. I barely even follow my post graduate school even though it is where I met my wife and started my family. App holds all my passion.AppDawg wrote: ↑Tue Dec 17, 2024 5:41 pmHow many of those Doctors & Lawyers went to Undergrad at Wake? Honestly when I look at the landscape of College sports I honestly think the field is leveling. All the so called big schools are dealing with the same thing only at a higher level. I think we’ll be fine.t4pizza wrote: ↑Tue Dec 17, 2024 9:21 pmI agree, undergrad holds the passion of most fans. Re: Dowell's assistants
The Scoop article says UNLV made an offer App State could not match. Mullen is getting paid $3.5M...they are making an investment in attempt to stay relevant in the new modern CFB world. They made a point with his salary. The highest paid MWC coach by more than double. The highest paid G5 coach in all. Paid higher than at least 1 coach from all the P4 conferences.
Their NIL funds have been a topic covered heavily this year & they are not strong in that regard but they do have several families in the Vegas area that are well off & make big time donations to the school & athletic department. Sometimes you have to spend money to make money.
They play in brand new stadium. They play in the hottest west coast market for athletics. If they can find success, financial investment from the Athletic Department will make it easier to maintain it. They will always get the best coaches & staff if they pay 1.5-2x as much as the rest of their conference / majority of the G5. They are putting their best foot forward to try & create a program worthy of a P4 invite for when the next big shift comes in CFB. They want to be at the big boy table.
Basketball there is just as important, and the reason their NIL for football isn't as good as it could be. I hate we lost out on Arnett, but you can't blame Mullen or UNLV for seeing how great an opportunity it was to get a DC with a discount. Wouldn't be surprised if he's making over $1.2M at all.

We really cannot out spend anyone and should not try. I imagine that Notre Dame out spends everyone, but we will never know because it is a private school. However, Notre Dame has not had a national championship in football since 1988.mountaineerman wrote: ↑Tue Dec 17, 2024 9:41 pmHonestly when I look at the landscape of College sports I honestly think the field is leveling. Says AppState94
“Miss St is paying him for the next 2 years. That amount owed by Miss St is reduced by whatever he is making at his next stop. So if he’s getting $1.2m to not coach from them and we pay him $400k, then Miss State’s obligation is now $800k.”
Ok. If that’s the deal why don’t we pay him $1? Let Mississippi State pay the rest.

I would assume the contract says that the new job would have to be at fair market value or comparable salary the new school has paid in the past...so to offset the Mississippi St. in a reasonable amount.Cro-Magnon App wrote: ↑Wed Dec 18, 2024 12:20 amSays AppState94
