Re: Vent Here
There is always an obsession over recruiting ranking which most of agree is bogus and a crapshoot but doesn't anyone evaluate transfer portal guys? What I mean for App is can the guys who transferred in be rated so to speak? I know we have a running back, receiver/returner and a linebacker who are major contributors. I just wonder how much improved are the other teams in our conference from bringing in free agents.
I really am not a huge fan of NIL and have read a few posts here about some of our guys getting paid but along those lines do we have competition who have players getting $$?

I hope he supports the right decisions when it comes to his family. As for the budget at JMU, yes they are going to be a power player. I think most of us expected that. The bar has been raised above what we raised it to for sure.Oldlknapp wrote: ↑Sun Oct 09, 2022 1:03 pmI’m inclined to think Sofield is an asset to have and in the long run will help the team, coaches and administration make good decisions.

As for JMU, I was very concerned when I saw their athletics budget… #1 in the Sunbelt by far. (We need 15 - 20 “Sofields” to help make up the difference.)

Re: Vent Here
There are not a ton of people saying fire everyone right now. If this season gets really bad and we don't make a bowl game I don't think you can argue against changes but we need to see how this goes. The issue for this team right now is that October was suppose to be the month we sweep and give us a chance to work things out so we are ready to truly rebound against CCU and Marshall. Taking a loss yesterday is a huge blow. I could see us finishing the season 8-4 but I could also see us finish 4-8 or 5-7 right now. I am interested to see how this staff and players respond.Seattleapp wrote: ↑Sun Oct 09, 2022 1:10 pmAbsolutely. I heard in recruiting we have about shut it down and won't take more than 1 or 2 more HS players but I think that would be a mistake. We have had a lot of NFL talent that we did not even find until November or December in prior years so I hope our staff is out looking for those in the 2023 class. There are some diamonds in the rough out there without a rating or good offer list that will end up being future college stars and NFL players that have not been found yet. I hope we are hitting the trail hard and trying to find some more of them.

No the hyperbole and speculation is rampant on this board. It’s becoming quite gossip girls with I heard and somebody told me. Judgment should be reserved until the race is run. I do find it funny the ass Kissing of jmu going on here. They’ve played one team with a pulse which was us and it took a complete collapse for them to win. And I give it to em. They’ve played 6 and won 6. But the slobbering over them on this board is laughable. Our schedule they aren’t 6-0. I guess I can’t really figure out what people want. Besides all being undefeated

There are portal rankings out there on On3 and 247. Marshall had like 24 dudes transfer in. JMU has a lot as well. We need to capitalize on the portal a little more than we currently do. JMU always highly benefits from current VA law that allows them to fund a ton of their athletic budget from Student Fees. It’s like 78% of their total budget. I think we are too focused on maintaining App culture with who we have versus bringing in DOGS (coaches or players) and adapting them to the App Culture on the mountain.

I agree they would not be undefeated but they are a good team. What makes me sick is that we should have beat them and Texas State but we did not. Right now they have a better football team than we do and there is no excuse for it this early. I don't consider it ass kissing to admit they will be a power player in our league. I said back when they joined that I expected Marshall, App State, and JMU to be among the top 3-5 teams in the league every year. Coming in I thought they would win 7 or 8 games in 2022 but I am betting they probably end up winning 10 or more now.Seattleapp wrote: ↑Sun Oct 09, 2022 1:28 pmNo the hyperbole and speculation is rampant on this board. Re: Vent Here
This aspect of college football is huge. An average G5 in particular brings in around 20 kids every year. Let's say of these 20 5 or so are linemen. For our level your talking about 6'4" and 260lb 18 year old kids who generally need 2 years of S&C before they contribute (redshirt). Obviously different at the big boy schools. Depth at most G5's in the trenches can't be deep. An injury or excessive graduation losses can be tough but if you can supplement with some grown 21 year old men that's huge. We obviously don't have trusted depth on either line.311neers wrote: ↑Sun Oct 09, 2022 1:29 pmThere are portal rankings out there on On3 and 247. Marshall had like 24 dudes transfer in. I just wonder if coaches talk sometime and just agree on a true lack of legit talent - the behind the scenes talk that we never hear about.

I don’t agree they are then better program or necessarily the better team. Like I said, I give them the credit for the win. However it was a perfect storm for them and it still took a complete complete meltdown for them to pull it out. They are a good program no doubt. But we did this last year with coastal. Then we beat ‘em and everyone suddenly loved App again. The sun belt East is loaded. I expect stumbles. Just like the other teams will stumble. This comes with the territory. People on here were clamoring for this. And here it is. We aren’t gonna boat race everyone now. People seem shocked by this. But I remain optimistic we will adapt and improve.AppStFan1 wrote: ↑Sun Oct 09, 2022 1:40 pmI agree they would not be undefeated but they are a good team. What more do you want to see for those of us that are calling for heads? They’ve had all off season to prepare and the calls have been lackluster. Are you waiting for a luck win like A&M to say “see no one needs to be replaced”? The worst people on this forum are the stagnant complacent ones, the ones who don’t mind 8 win seasons in the Sun belt. Forgive me for believing App is an anomaly to the G5 drudge of never gaining national respect. If you believe we are a national program but the coaches can suck with impunity and can have a “down year” in the SBC, you’re gonna love when we fall further into irrelevancy.

I expect stumbles like you do but a loss to Texas State is not one of them. I thought we would be 4-2 right now and then lose 1 or 2 in November. The fact we lost to Texas State and JMU really puts our backs against a wall. If we lose 2 in November like I thought we would then that puts us at 7-5, which is the bare minimum for us to be bowl eligible this year. I hope you are right that we adapt and improve but it better happen in the next couple weeks or we could be in real trouble. We don't have a single game to take for granted. Every team we play except for Robert Morris has as much or more talent than Texas State.

Agree on the schedule - with the exception of Robert Morris - we play teams on par with JMU, Troy and Texas State. This is the time to find out a lot about the players and coaches.

I personally, don't think anyone should be fired now. I do think that we have significant issues with coaching (defense AND offense). I am very worried about the direction we are moving. Noel was not going to play today. He's still not 100%.
Also, players are not executing on game day what is executed in game planning. Ultimately, that's on coaching but not entirely. Player leaders need to step up and make the rest realize what it takes. Also, I was at Ale House until Midnight after the JMU game, Chase brice was not at that bar. But don’t blame him one bit if he did. he’s 25 years old and coaching and defense blew that one.

Chase is 24 or close to 25, been in college for what, 6 years? He's long since graduated and is just enjoying the ride now. Maybe he gets a pro look but if not he's at his 3rd school. I'd like to think he takes losses as hard as he enjoys wins but I don't expect him to cry in his room. I'll leave it at that. Clark hasn't lost the locker room or anything, but he may be learning quickly he's too much of a players coach.
Noel was not going to play today. He's still not 100%.
Also, players are not executing on game day what is executed in game planning. Ultimately, that's on coaching but not entirely. Player leaders need to step up and make the rest realize what it takes. Its not just practice. It's living and breathing App State football. We have some guys that aren't doing that right now.
You can question a lot of things, but Chase and his leadership and commitment ain’t one of them.
GO APPS!!
