I agree, and would also be OK with FCS teams with whom we have had an history of rivalry, i.e. Western, ETSU, JMU. Nobody like Campbell or Liberty.huskie3 wrote:I am ok with a 2nd FCS if it is someone like Montana or McNeese.

I would like to work Furman is a bunch over the next few years so we can get the series lead on them. I don't care if it is "big brother beating up on younger brother." I would like to have the series lead in football.sonsofyosef wrote:I agree, and would also be OK with FCS teams with whom we have had an history of rivalry, i.e. Western, ETSU, JMU. The second FCS team would have to be a strong one for me to be happy but most important is 6 home games. I will also say that I really hope we NEVER schedule A&T again.

Re: FCS
Which FCS school do I want to schedule each year?
The one that brings the most fans. The reason for playing FCS games is to euchre a 6th home game for the purpose of increasing revenue. Don't lose sight of the goal.

Because we allow them to treat it like a home game. Their band plays over ours. They run over our entrance. The real problem is the way we act when they come to the Rock. We should NEVER allow that crap in our house.WVAPPeer wrote:Why not A&T?bcoach wrote:The second FCS team would have to be a strong one for me to be happy but most important is 6 home games. Re: FCS
Please have your AD contact ours. I'd love to come to Boone. While he has Jeff Bourne on the phone convince him to join the SB.
I agree with playing more than one FCS team. While you are trying to build your program back up to a competitive level, whether new to FBS or been there 100 years, playing two competitive FCS games can make a lot of sense.
Though Duke did not do it, when they were the perennial bottom feeder of the ACC they should have played two FCS teams per season for a couple of years. I also, think these FCS teams should be not only be competitive, but also should have a great traveling fan base, i.e. JMU. The one game we played Duke, they had one of the largest turnouts in the previous 5 years down at Durham. The same for when we played UMD.
Sometimes an AD must take a hard look at where the program is, and realize that its not going to turn itself around in one season. As was demonstrated by Duke's hiring of David Cutliff. The man is a great coach, but his first 4 seasons was 4-8, 5-7, 3-9, 3-9. Then it began to turn, in 2012 6-7 and last year playing for the ACC title finishing at 10-4 and played in the Chick-Fil-A Bowl. During those first few seasons, there was good reason to bring in two, good traveling, FCS teams. They knew before the start of those seasons they wouldn't be bowling.
The one thing to be careful of is when announcing that two FCS games will be played, you also must let the fan base see that you have contracted some good FBS games a couple years down the road i.e. Notre Dame playing in Winston Salem back in 2011. People will forgive you if they can see that you will be taking care of them in a couple of years. Be transparent and let them know that this is where the program is, but here is our plan for the future.

I personally thoroughly enjoyed the A&T band playing at half time. As opposed to being afraid of it why don't we just step up and win the game,or out play their band. I wasn't raised to run, my dad taught me that when you take a shot you give one back two fold.

Also if you attended any of the "big" games at Elon the APP fans took over their stadium and if we had brought our 250 member BOD they would have totally swamped the 50 member Elon band --- A couple of years ago after the A&T game we stayed for the post game band show and the A&T band came down on the field and they and the BOD alternated playing tunes - IT WAS GREAT !!!WVAPPeer wrote:Really don't understand that answer but from I read it has nothing to do with their football team? ---bcoach wrote:Because we allow them to treat it like a home game. Yes, I thought only 4 home games sucked in 2005, but that first National Championship that year was sweet!mtnjax wrote:those people must be content then with a season like 2005 when we only had 4 home games...WVAPPeer wrote:True --- but some did not want to play ANY - I believe that was what Cline was referring to ---
I hope we continue the plan for 6 homes games and keep the FCS game in September. Love going back up to Boone for the home games. With one FCS game a year we still can qualify for bowl games.

If our band gets shown up (not saying they did) it's hardly something to hold against the other band, it's kind of like blaming the other FB team for winning the game.WVAPPeer wrote:Also if you attended any of the "big" games at Elon the APP fans took over their stadium and if we had brought our 250 member BOD they would have totally swamped the 50 member Elon band --- A couple of years ago after the A&T game we stayed for the post game band show and the A&T band came down on the field and they and the BOD alternated playing tunes - IT WAS GREAT !!!WVAPPeer wrote:Really don't understand that answer but from I read it has nothing to do with their football team? ---bcoach wrote:Because we allow them to treat it like a home game. Re: FCS
Can someone explain the line of thinking to me that playing a 2nd FCS team is OK, or at least more acceptable, if it is a strong FCS program? Is it just that you want to see a competitive game?
I've already given my thoughts, but in short:
- The goal starting in 2015 is to get bowl-eligible. Scheduling a 2nd FCS game hurts our chances there.
- Any FCS game should be as close to a sure win as possible. The goal for these games (besides scheduling another home game) is to play essentially a glorified scrimmage where we win by 30+ and get young players some experience. It is not to provide a down-to-the-wire thriller for fans.
- Continuing FCS "rivalries" is NOT desirable IMO, and would only delay our progress.
