Not to hen peck but it was 48-14 but who’s counting opponent touchdowns at this point. You’re exactly right.

Also the premise that we can’t recruit talent at the level we did from the 2015-2018 classes is lost on me.

"Define bad? A losing record, internal strife, losing the team? All of those are more justifiable for moving on then the lack of conference titles...."

Bad: getting blown out at home on ESPN to S.Alabama. Getting blown out in two of the first four games to start the season. Watching most of the team quit in the S. Alabama game. Likely finishing the season without a conference championship for the fifth season in a row. 6-6 in 2022 with two of those wins against FCS competition. Hope my definition of bad helps you understand.

Geez it was even worse than I remember. That’s what happens when you leave midway through the 3rd I guess.

Those teams, especially 18 and 19 had some insane talent that got invites to the next level. Meech, ADG, SJC, Jackson, Hampton, Jolly, Evans, Virgil, Hennigan, Sutton, Pearson, Hodges, Fehr, Josh Thomas, Nick Ross, Steven Jones, Neuzil. Not all of them translated to sticking in the NFL but that roster was loaded. How many G5s had that much talent on one roster? To replicate that in today’s game is near impossible.

To use that era as a benchmark is unfair because that was clearly a peak and unsustainable.
Fair enough, but then don't say we haven't fallen off.
Ok. But it still doesn’t warrant a change of leadership.
Why not?
He hasn’t done anything to warrant being relieved of his duties. Failure to living up to the fan’s expectations isn’t justification.
This year it took us much longer to sell out games than in past years. And on the current track, it’s going to be worse next year. When we don’t live up to fans expectations… we sell fewer tickets, get fewer good TV slots, revenue goes down, and we will attract less talent. You don’t have to meet fan expectations every year but you at least need to be in the vicinity of meeting them and we are far from that.

Nah, fans are just an annoyance. They don't understand anything. They have expectations, and they shouldn't be allowed to. They aren't coaches so they should have no opinion. The only purpose for fans is to give them your money and shut up.

the USA blowout is really indefensible. A team with vastly less resources absolutely wiped the floor with us based on coaching and heart (you know, the things we used to be good at). They have 20% of the donations and ticket sales. They are in a state where even their most ardent supporters have a "real" team they pull for. To have people wax over it like its no big deal is what is truly baffling. Clemson blowing App out can be excused. USA blowing App out is the canary in the coal mine.

While some are okay with Clemson blowing us out, some are not. Those days should be well behind us against any team, although with the portal and NIL it might be a theme moving forward, but Clemson doesn't even use the portal. Clemson set 122 year old records against us....
Not against Limestone, not against Citadel, not against SC State, UNCharrisburg....against App State.

Once we can get out from under the cloud left by Drinkwitz in about 5 more years, we will be ready to compete! Until then, our expectations (that are the same as the team itself) are unrealistic

As I’ve seen that for many of you that are CCG or bust, I decided to look into the numbers between the quality of competition that those championships were won versus now.

2014-2018 2019 2020-2023
W/L. 48-16 13-1 34-18
Win %. 75%. 93% 65%
Conf Foes W/L 261-343 53-60 279-268
W/L % 43%. 47% 51%
# of .500+ teams 3 4 7

The 2018 was the 1st year of divisions and a true CCG. An 11-2 App beat a 7-7 Louisiana
2019 a 13-1 App beat an 11-3 Louisiana.

The point to all of this is that the league has gotten significantly better over the last few years. It doesn’t take away from those CC won prior to 2020 but it does put in perspective how much easier that path was compared to now.
Of course the league has improved, and we are the primary reason why. So what? We have always been built to win the CC, that is baked into the ASU football culture.

Yes, the Sun Belt is more competitive than it was in the 2010s.

To me, these numbers are screaming an obvious question: Why haven't WE improved and progressed along with the rest of our league?

At best, we're stagnant. At worst, we're regressing at the worst possible time.

Cloud left by Drinkwitz is a very succinct way to put what we are experiencing now. If Drinkwitz had stayed I do not believe he would have been able to continue with that level of success. Maybe he damaged this team, culture, and fanbase more than anyone realizes.

That is the main question we should be asking ourselves. Too many times, we are worried about what this school or that school is doing. What are WE doing? Are WE improving? Are WE building a sustainable SBC contender? Once I began asking those questions and not knowing the answers, I realized what needed to be done to move forward.

You're pinning the damage to our program on a man being here one year with that one year being the best one we have ever had...... Ok.

Nah, fans are just an annoyance. They don't understand anything. They have expectations, and they shouldn't be allowed to. They aren't coaches so they should have no opinion. The only purpose for fans is to give them your money and shut up.
its not that they shouldn't have expectations, its that they have the WRONG expectations. Winning and conference championships? NO. NOT EVER. Who would be ok with that?

The expectation should be that no other program wants your coach. See, expectation met. Everyone is happy.
Once we can get out from under the cloud left by Drinkwitz in about 5 more years, we will be ready to compete! Until then, our expectations (that are the same as the team itself) are unrealistic

Cloud left by Drinkwitz is a very succinct way to put what we are experiencing now. If Drinkwitz had stayed I do not believe he would have been able to continue with that level of success. Maybe he damaged this team, culture, and fanbase more than anyone realizes.
You're pinning the damage to our program on a man being here one year with that one year being the best one we have ever had...... Ok.
I would not say that 2019 is the best year that Appalachian has ever had, Appalachian did not win a National Championship that year.
