Re: idiot students
Bingo! We see in the economy the blue color jobs have become very lucrative, because there is greater demand to fill these jobs. And it helps you don't have to go into debt with a 4 year degree to work this job. The economy is much more complex then just political decisions.Seattleapp wrote: ↑Tue Sep 02, 2025 10:05 pmEntirely serious. I don't know the level of depth to explain here. Simply put, the transition from a consumer-focused to a shareholder-focused economic system beginning in the 80's. Boomers ignored the threat of climate change when decisive action was possible, dismantled public investments in social programs that could have strengthened opportunities for future generations, and ushered in an era of economic insecurity that has left their children and grandchildren poorer and more anxious. When my generation came to economic prominence (I'm 36), it was already too late. Inflation-adjusted wages of non-billionaires have been stagnant for four decades while the economic divide between a few thousand people and the rest of us exceeds that of France just prior to the French Revolution. This has snowballed, particularly since 2016, and allowed the most wealthy to put their fingers on the scales of every system we have. Citizens United et al. Our current system is a mixture of consumer capitalism, fascism, and feudalism, and there's nothing any 30-something can do about it. Older folks moving to smaller homes are selling their family-sized homes to private equity for cash offers. Millennials and Gen Z need two professional incomes just to live like a tradesman with a stay-at-home wife in the 70's. It's completely f*cked.
You are really throwing it all in the pot together and while I agree with some of your points, you are also taking some creative liberties with others. Just causally tying “climate change” to wages and blaming boomers for it is dubious at best. And I’m not sure what dismantling investment into
Social programs means. All we do is throw money at social programs with mixed results to put it kindly. You also leave out the complete scam that are many universities
these days. Kids are going hundreds of thousands of dollars in debt to obtain bullshit degrees that don’t earn them anything in the work force. Conversely, while not sexy, Kids who are attending trade schools are doing much better financially and aren’t starting out under debt they can’t get out from under. And I’m curious what combined total you arrive at for two professionals to live in the United States. I’m not slingin mud and I want to be respectful of your opinion but saying Boomers have turned our country into a dystopian wasteland seems a bit hyperbolic. And like I said, there are points you make I agree with, I’m simply pointing out there are other variables both good and bad that are
Contributing and every generation plays a part.
So I ask, is there really no jobs available in the economy for the average 25-35 year old? Or is it there are no low labor, high paying "easy" jobs that a 30 year old wants to do and prefers just staying at home and blaming the Economy instead? I'll agree it's open for debate.

Re: idiot students
I’m a boomer… college was preached to me from birth if I wanted to amount to anything. It became a societal norm. We preached college to our kids. We have an over abundance of white collared grads and a lot of stupid trivial pursuit degrees. The economy has/is changing and presenting opportunities in skilled blue collar fields.
Boomers kids have ignored the damage of too much screen time and avoided discipline thru early teen years.
This is (I agree) this leads to poor behavior more times than not.

I know dozens of boomers who are kind amazing people who are no more complicit in the creation of this modern dystopia than I am, but as far as who was the working and voting age generation when our nation began to take this path is clear.
Anyway, I'm sure those two drunk kids are ass holes when they're sober, they just have more shame and self awareness before all those Busch lites. In vino vertitas.
More women entering the workforce: increase in labor supply decreases the labor price (wages)
Global economy: when you can outsource labor to countries with 10% of the wages of the US, it will lead to less jobs here and lower wages
Housing: the average new house in 1950 was under 1k square feet. Today, it is nearly triple that. Some of this is "keeping up with the Joneses" and some is housing regulations. Many people like to compare a house that was bought in a small town for peanuts in 1970 that is worth way more now. But that town has changed significantly. You can still find small houses in small towns for under $200,000.

I mean I was loud and yelled F unc harrisburg and F the refs maybe twice. But also, the people by me were chill. Once the dad I'm assuming in the family moved by me things smoothed out. We talked about our center sucking all second half

Re: idiot students
My nephew is 25 and seemingly has nothing wrong with him but he lives at home and just works nonsense jobs. He has no education or skill set but when you talk to him he’s got it all figured out. He’s a nice guy but has zero drive. Conversely his best friend in high school who came from a broken home and was on the same path, joined the Army and the last time I saw him he was light years more mature and focused than my nephew. There is a bit of an entitlement problem we have in this country these days.CoachRob wrote: ↑Wed Sep 03, 2025 11:29 amBingo! Lindenwood. There's a thread for it, and you can go there to talk about it. This thread is to talk about idiot students.

Re: idiot students
I'm all for passion and intensity when supporting your team. With that being said, I have found that supporting your team becomes an excuse to be a jerk for many people. The student body often has a hard time finding that line of being passionate for the team while staying sportsmanlike. Also a large portion of the students that attend the football games have no clue about football and only care about getting plastered on the hill. Nothing against doing that, but it leads to individuals not knowing how to properly cheer for your team (e.g. being a jerk)

Re: idiot students
The dismantling of public education and the nuclear family, allowing feelings not facts to drive curriculum, and letting the government issue college debt has burdened Gen Y and Z with self-expectations that can't be met in the timely fashion they desire, and saddled them with debt they can't get out from under.
The genie is hard to put back into the bottle, but adopting European climate and immigration policies isn't the answer to solve the identified issue above.

Not sure what Biden has to do with this, but quit blaming your problems on someone else. That's the biggest issue with your generation, you've been taught that grievance is a virtue. Life is hard, deal with it.

Incoming non-clever boomer joke no doubt.
Gen X would like to remind both the older and younger generations we exist and are tired of the whining from both of you!
We were in elementary school when they wheeled in a TV to show us a spaceship with a teacher on it explode and then went right back learning actual math without woke word problems inserted into them, then went home and were told to stay outside until dinner/dark and figure out something to do.
That said, I wouldn't trade my childhood for ones today with internet and phones.

Re: idiot students
I was actually in high school (10th grade) when that happened, taking an English test. I live and grew up in Satellite Beach, FL, the Space Coast, so launches were so usual by that time that most didn't even pay attention, but we all used it as an excuse to go to the window (namely to compare answers from the test) and that's when we all watched it explode. Words really can't describe seeing it in person. And yes, afterwards, we all had to finish the test and attend the rest of our classes. Keep in mind, a great number of kids in the school (and most of the schools in the county) had parent(s) that worked at the Cape and were either directly or indirectly tied to NASA for their jobs. After that happened, I never thought it would get to the point where we would take launches for granted again. Of course, now there are so many going up that it is a non event to the locals again.Saint3333 wrote: ↑Wed Sep 03, 2025 3:41 pmIncoming non-clever boomer joke no doubt.

Man, that is rough. I was home sick from school that day, watching the TV broadcast when it happened. I can’t imagine what you and your classmates dealt with being down on the Space Coast.t4pizza wrote: ↑Wed Sep 03, 2025 3:58 pmI was actually in high school (10th grade) when that happened, taking an English test.
