idiot students

Unread post by asumba95 » Sun Aug 31, 2025 9:25 am

First off, will preface this by saying that most of the students we encountered/sat near were respectful and just having good-natured fun pulling for App. However, we sat next to two morons who spent the better part of the first half yelling obscenities and trying to instigate a couple of UNCC fans sitting about 8 rows in front of us. After telling them they were acting like petulant children they finally started calming down, but I had to switch seats to keep from fuming and getting further involved.

I wished the UNCC dudes would have come up and told them to back up their talk, because I'm sure these two would have backed down when confronted. I understand, people get amped up (and liquored up) before football games, but it's a bad look that I've seen before at other App games.

Well, this could open a deep conversation, but basically, kids are spoiled beyond belief these days and behave that way because they get away with it and haven’t been raised to behave better.

The Chick Fil A that I frequent has implemented a policy that essentially doesn’t allow teens inside unless they’re with a parent during certain times of the day. At one point they had to close the inside for a couple of hours after school because the kids had become so destructive and disrespectful.

In my opinion, poor parenting is the root cause of it.

I’m stunned at how many parents seem perfectly happy to allow their kids to live at home until they’re 30 or even older. Forever a child I guess.

All that being said, there are some great kids out there.

This falls within my one percenters theory I’ve used for years. Most if not all of societies issues are because of basically 1% of the population who either refuse or for whatever reason can’t abide by laws, common sense or common decency. I’d say 99% of the population doesn’t cause crime or at ball games doesn’t get wasted and yell obscenities at people for absolutely no reason.

2 things.

Ill hammer this for the rest of my life. These college students are NOT kids. They are Adults making Adult decisions. Talk to college students like the adults they are and treat them like the adults they are. If need be, confront them for the bad adult decisions they are making and remind them they are adults and not kids.

I appreciate the OP calling out the idiots.

Next

Its ok for some to live at their parents house if its a necessity or a logical decision. One of the greatest cons in American history was convincing everyone that they needed to spend lots of money and time chasing the "American dream." The American dream was brilliant marketing. Some of the happiest people I've ever met are people who live next to their family or on their family property. The huge push to make everyone "independent" has just created a culture of debt and never ending want to try to achieve some idea that once achieved still doesn't feel like enough.

With prices as are they are now, I really don't have an issue with it if its what people need to do. The economic world most of the posters on here grew up with is long gone and will never return. Please don't judge the current emerging adults economic choice based on your personal experiences from 20+ years ago. Its apples and oranges now.

Correct. Stuff like this will happen for eternity.

Any group (football fans, nurse practitioners, rodeo clowns, ballet dancers) is gonna have mostly normal people and a couple bad apples that are the most visible and usually worst representation of that group.

At the last FB game in Chapel Hill I sat in a UNC section in the last row before an App section began behind us.
I was there with a close friend and his friends who are very respectable people.
Two App alumni who had just graduated were directly behind us. Two guys and two girls. Long story short, they were loud, rude, obnoxious and annoying. They never shut up.
I finally had to “politely” ask them to tone it down because they were quite embarrassing and getting our nerves. They did settle down after my threat to have them removed.
It was not a good look at all on our fan base
and I apologized to the group I was with.

It is a shame these things happen. You will always have a few who get out of control and don’t represent themselves or the university well. Unfortunate but true.

However ..we still have a ton of great respectable fans...it's those entitled ones who weren't around when kidd brewer had maybe 15k in the stands before we started having a ridiculous amt of success....there are some spoiled shits out there

I blame alcohol for most of the problems at sporting events.

It’s also responsible for a lot of fun.

It’s also responsible for people around me constantly getting up to either buy more alcohol or to piss. It gets tiresome.

There was a grown ass man in the 1st row of 310 who constantly flipped the bird for any call he didn’t like.
Yes was an App fan.

I have no problem with people drinking at games and fully enjoying themselves.

Just do it responsibly and in consideration of others.

Nothing is an issue until it becomes an issue.

Alcohol doesn't magically cause someone to be a jerk. It enhances behavior that the person already had and takes away the inhibitions.

There's always the same percentage of jerk fans in a fanbase. When you have more fans, you have more jerk fans.

There was a Charlotte students walking around FanFest screaming "UNC-Atlantis," referencing Helene.

I’ll disagree. I think alcohol can change people. Some of the sweetest people I know turn into bad people when they drink. And I know you’ll say, they really aren’t sweet people. They are.

Alcohol also leads to lots of very fun times and memories. It’s a drug that affects people differently.

I’ve known otherwise decent people who when drunk are various types, mean (want to fight), loud (like that bunch), lovable (we know the type) or maybe a combination.

You did the right thing by calling them out. I will respectfully do the same. We go to most away games, and I have seen both student and adult fans acting crazy; I politely ask them to stop saying that we do not act like that.

We were in Section 111 Friday night. There was one UNCC student two rows in front of us. For most of the game, he seemed okay. During the latter part of the 3rd Quarter he took his shirt off (violation of BofA rules) but I didn't say anything about it. Then, halfway through the 4th, he started giving an App fan/student grief who was sitting behind him/in front of us. I didn't see the App guy direct any comments towards him- he was just having a good time with his group. My wife tired of his berating the App guy and called him out- told him to turn his eyes front and cut it out. He became belligerent towards us, making ageist and slightly threatening statments. My wife got security to come down, as I was engaging the young man, and they kicked him out. This is another anectdote which shows there are poor fans for every team.
