Re: Avoid Like the Plague
It’s not the step up you proclaim it to be. The SoCon is hands down better in basketball. There are four so con teams this year who are better than any team in the sun belt. Just playing in larger empty gyms doesn’t constitute a better league. Sun belt is a one team bid conference just like the so con

"The SoCon is hands down better in basketball."
That's this year (and last year) not historically. Historically, the Sun Belt has finished ahead of the SoCon in RPI 16 of the past 22 years. Most years it hasn't been all that far ahead but ahead it has been. Expect the pendulum to swing back soon.

I’m probably a little biased I’ll admit, but watching the so con tourney and seeing the matchups and the addition of etsu, the sun belt currently can’t come close to that. No one cares about Arkansas Little Rock vs app stateArsenal App wrote: ↑Fri Jan 18, 2019 8:29 pm"The SoCon is hands down better in basketball."

The Citadel missed 37 threes in a game last week. Entertaining??EastHallApp wrote: ↑Thu Jan 17, 2019 7:32 pmOne guy we probably could get would be Duggar Baucom. We might or might not win as much as we want, but at least we’d be entertaining.

Former UALR coach Steve Shields should be worth a look. UALR’s all time winningest coach at a prototype commuter school with little student engagement. High energy guy with a proven winning track record.
Spent last three seasons as Missouri assistant coach - currently assistant at Southern Miss. UALR fell off towards the end of his stint there, but he made do with a good facility and little to no fan engagement for 12 years.

It’s a half-serious suggestion. His record isn’t very good, but you could argue he overachieved at VMI. I admit I’ve always been curious how his system would do at a program where they’re not at an athletic disadvantage just about every night.

Lutz may be the most qualified coach willing to take the jobswva appfan wrote: ↑Thu Jan 17, 2019 8:30 pmI'm in on him I thought you meant "avoid him like the plague".ASU85Grad wrote: ↑Thu Jan 17, 2019 7:15 pmI know that in years past he would have come to App to coach. Baucom and Lutz are both Charlotte alums, hire one of them and Gonzo's meltdown would be epic.EastHallApp wrote: ↑Thu Jan 17, 2019 7:32 pmOne guy we probably could get would be Duggar Baucom. We might or might not win as much as we want, but at least we’d be entertaining.

I want what’s best for Appalachian. I don’t care if they’re from UNCC or ISIS if they win here.Nugget49 wrote: ↑Sun Jan 20, 2019 7:32 pmBaucom and Lutz are both Charlotte alums, hire one of them and Gonzo's meltdown would be epic.EastHallApp wrote: ↑Thu Jan 17, 2019 7:32 pmOne guy we probably could get would be Duggar Baucom. Plus, I think you have it backwards. Having an App alum take a UNCC job would probably annoy me. I feel like you and your 11 fellow Niner fans would be butthurt about a Lutz-to-App announcement, not us. UNC not hiring Satterfield was the most relieving moment I’ve felt since I got home from Europe and went to the bathroom.
And finally:

Yep. Half a dozen national championships or in that range. A teacher. I think we need a teacher of the game.

Fake news. He turned C.Cobb's firm job offers down flatly--several times. Refused on-campus visits.ASU85Grad wrote: ↑Thu Jan 17, 2019 7:15 pmI know that in years past he would have come to App to coach. He has a good record with lots of experience.
