Field Hockey Island Growing Smaller
Ran across a couple blurbs about a couple mid-Atlantic field hockey teams departing independent island for membership in the Big East. Liberty and ODU (along with Quinnipiac) are joining up effective next season. I know we've invested a decent amount recently in the FH program -what with a new field and new HC...hopefully DG & Co. are working hard behind the scenes to secure a conference home for the ladies of this already-challenged program.

ODU is already Big East FH. Quinnipiac is/was Metro Atlantic. Liberty was DI Indy like us.
Not sure if all three are moving to the Big East, but of the 78 DI schools with field hockey we will be the only independent team if Liberty joins a conference. A CAA invite would be nice-schools are close. The MAC would be more competitive for us. That is most likely our options though I have no idea if either conference wants/needs another school.

This is my very generic signature added to each post.

You're right about ODU already competing in the Big East in FH. I saw an associated posting with a Nov. 15' date and did not bother to click the link, but if I had I would've noticed that information was a couple of years old. The release from yesterday was specific to Liberty's acceptance of a Big East invite (and also noted Quinnipiac's inclusion as well), effective next season. So it looks like we're about to be all alone :/McLeansvilleAppFan wrote:ODU is already Big East FH. Quinnipiac is/was Metro Atlantic. Liberty was DI Indy like us.
