Re: Oline and QB are real problems
Our guys are very athletic, quick, and smart. They also need to be bigger, much bigger.
Therein lies the problem. Our success has come from relatively small athletes with great skills. If they were larger with the same skills, they would be higher rated recruits and gain the attention of the bigger schools.
I hope we use our success to attract bigger fellows with the same high skill set at QB and defensive and offensive lines.

Re: Oline and QB are real problems
I've seen complaints on here about every QB we've had the last ten years except AE and I'm sure he even had some. Our 11-2 team has solid players at every position unlike other teams like GA State which has a great QB and receivers but weak in all other areas. We just wrapped up the most successful season of any team that moved from Fcs to FBS and people aren't happy.

Re: Oline and QB are real problems
Some people on this board need to be thankful with what we have. IF there any areas that need to be addressed I am sure our coaches are aware of it and doing just that. If you don't like Taylor Lamb then the next 2 years are going to be difficult for you because he will be our QB. Get over it and be supportive or keep your mouth shut. Thank you to the App State coaches, players, and support staff for a highly successful season. App State

Lets get real, you made the comments when you thought we were going to lose the game. I had people around me saying the same thing. I'm just glad our team had more faith in themselves than some of our fans did. We're playing better teams now. Sometimes the increased level of competition is going to make good players look bad. I aplaud ours players and coaches for sticking with it and getting a great win!

Wasn't just message board people - pretty sure I remember Steve Behr writing in '07 that we should just make Trey Elder the starter because Armanti got hurt too much.Rick0714 wrote:I do remember a few posters on another site years ago complaining about AE during the '09 season. I'm sure they'll put those For Sale sign pictures back up in Satterfield's yard like they did last year. They also wanted to run Woody out of town. These guys are an embarrassment to the MMB.BeauFoster wrote:Good god I hate to think what a few on this board will say if we "only" win 8-9 games next season...

Re: Oline and QB are real problems
I had several people around me who got down on the team and the coaches while we were losing. One was quite vocal about it until the guy in front of him finally told him to be quiet. I will be the first to admit that we need to bolster our line on both sides. Games are won and lost on the line. If we are going to be a run first team, we need to have lots of big offensive linemen. I'm sure the coaching staff is aware of this and will address it. This coaching staff knows how to get the best out of each player. I trust them to get the right players for each position.

Re: Oline and QB are real problems
Lamb reminds me of Satterfield, and has since he first took the field last year. No, he's not the best athlete on the field, but he has the ability to make everyone else better. True leader.App74 wrote:"This guy can't run and he can't throw, but somehow we're winning."AppDawg wrote:Not just 11-2, but Lamb is 17-2 in his last 19 games.

Maybe in 20 years, Lamb will again remind me of Satterfield -- on the App sidelines.

Re: Oline and QB are real problems
I was at the game. I too had doubts about Lamb leading us down field on the last drive to win. But I was wrong, he did a great job getting us in FG position. Lamb is a good QB, only thing I see that he needs to work on is his "happy feet" when he is under pressure. I would take him over alot of qbs other teams have. It was a great win and a great season.

Re: Oline and QB are real problems
On a couple of occasions Lamb threw to Jones when he was well covered and actually put the ball where it could be caught. Would have taken a great receiver to pull it down but it was there. As far as Lamb is concerned the best thing you can say is he is a leader and has the QB nerve. Went out with program history on the line and lead us down the field.
We had this same discussion about Kam Bryant. Great stats but some were just not fans of him as the starting QB. Let's see what happens with Lamb. If somebody steps up like he did last year then we have a new QB. Otherwise he is the man.

Re: Oline and QB are real problems
He was hurt from a hurt he took in the second quarter right before the melt down. I can not agree with your comment, and in fact I take offense to it. When he was hot he could not focus, I watched him get up shaking his head and having a difficult time getting focused. He seemed out of sorts the rest of the half and settled down in the 3rd quarter. After the safety in the 4th quarter he came to the sidelines and could not move his shoulders above his numbers and was in obvious pain. Without Marcus Cox ob the final drive and a depleted O Line, he took the ball and drove us down the field and pulled off a run for the ages despite being hurt. We won due in part to his sacrifice and leadership. His success is he is a winner, his success is he is a talent, and we are privileged to have him. I am pleased that you an Monday morning or couch QB.ASU_MBA wrote:Lamb is so overrated. Sorry to offend some and I don't care about his efficiency stats, the dude folds with a little pressure and can't handle big games.
His success is system driven off a strong run game and tough D

My big surprise is that anyone who was actually at the game had time to post here. Our crowd was too busy yelling. I still have no voice.

Re: Oline and QB are real problems
I can't believe some of you are being so negative right now. While I agree we have some holes to fill on the OL its hard to imagine anyone not being a fan of Lamb. Does he have a big time arm? No, but there have been plenty of successful QB's that didn't. Does he make bad decisions from time to time? Yes, but show me one QB that doesn't make a few bad decisions. Keep in mind two of our best OL were out, and one of the replacements has been a bad player from the time he got to Boone.
Taylor was getting hit on almost every pass he threw, and most of that pressure was coming from his blindside. That will rattle any QB. Despite that he stood in there, made a few big throws, and he made two huge runs to get us down the field for the game winning FG. He broke Armanti's single season record for TD passes, and is on pace to finish #2 in career passing yards by a wide margin. He is ranked 1st or 2nd in 6 different Sun Belt passing categories, and is in the top 15 in FBS in those same categories. Let's not forget that he is doing this on a team that runs the ball about 63% of the time.

JT - I'm with you and I'm sure you would agree with me on this --- I will take a QB who WINS, delivers with the game on the line OVER the QB who has the big arm, the big stats and more losses ---
