Nothing to do with Cobb, but Traveris Cadet just caught a long TD pass for Saints. McCray playing for Jags.

Border war? Okay, but only if he agrees to return Berkeley and Jefferson Counties to the Commonwealth. Yeah, I know my Virginia history.

I do have a friend who has a 49 star flag (a Simpsons situation for everything), because he refuses to acknowledge West Virginia. (Jokingly, of course...at least I think it's a joke).

I did hear a funny one at a WVU game in Charlottesville years ago ...the halftime show by the UVA band had some history flavor and the PA announcer said, "Hey, West Virginia if you were going to secede WHY THE HELL DIDN'T YOU TAKE BLACKSBURG WITH YOU?

That's a good one. All dirt roads lead to Tech.

And Statesboro, of course.

The Sunbelt was 2-2 in bowls, losing to CUSA and the Mountain West. Southern beat a MAC school. This was in fact a down year for many of the G5, but anything Cobb says I take with a grain of salt. I think that the Sunbelt is the right fit for now. We will see a realignment in all of the conferences in five years and App will be in the right place to move forward in a new regional centered conference.

Let's all dream about a 10 team league including App, Charlotte, ECU, Old Dominion, Marshall, Coastal, Middle Tennessee, Georgia Southern, Memphis, and oh I dunno...Navy.

I, as it appears you do as well, struggle with future realignment talk. I have no clue where there will even be space for us to go in the future. Nothing has changed/will change with regards to our locale/ tv market that will make us more attractive than we were when the Sunbelt was the only one willing to extend us a bid.

Also I don't get this regional conference pipe dream. For one, ECU alumni would absolutely melt down if they ever had to go into a conference like the one described above. They've spent the 30 years digging trying to separate themselves from our caliber of teams. The AAC is undoubtedly the best G5 conference. ECU still isnt satisfied and wants to be in a P5, no evidence they would ever go backwards.

I wish working towards getting into the AAC was a realistic goal for App, but I don't see how it is. Short of the Big 12 snaking UCF or someone, or the P5s going to 16-18 teams, I'm not sure how further realignment continues-at least to the point that it moves the needle for App ( I don't see much difference, especially after their TV deal expires, between CUSA and the Sun Belt). We just need to start winning conference championships, stack our OOC with good teams (and win a few), and make a name for ourselves that is bigger than the conference we are in. Lot of pride in what we did this year, will be even more if we beat good OOC teams and win conference titles consistently year in and year out.

Firemoose's post in this thread is excellent. We have many people that read this board but never post because of the fear of saying something that someone else disagrees with.

We've got people on here that want to shut down any discussion they disagree with (FCS vs FBS, etc.) In addition, some of these people take personal shots at the posters they disagree with along the way. That's why this board only has a few "regular" posters and why many of the insightful posters from the MMB during the AE days are gone.

Are there some borderline idiotic posts on here? Sure. But if everyone is treated with respect, then this board will open up and flourish with new blood and insightful posts. You can't have one without the other.

For you guys that want to crucify someone for saying something you think is stupid.....realize that you are very likely shutting down several OTHER people from EVER POSTING ON THIS BOARD because of your caustic replies.

MtnMan09,

I know exactly what you mean. And I completely agree with you that that's reality. ECU, Marshall, and Navy fans/alums would lose their minds if they were "stuck" in a conference with perceived "lesser" teams. App would stand everything to gain and they everything to lose.

The other reality, the one I think they all know is true but try to ignore, is that the 'spread far and wide' conference model just doesn't work in the long run. It costs too much. They think consolidating the best teams *or* the biggest markets will somehow turn them into a power 5 league but the power 5's will do anything they can to ensure that doesn't happen.

Now I get that this train of thought is solely from our perspective and if you ask an ECU or Cincinnati fan they've spent the last decade or more trying to get out of the regional conferences and they'd be dammed if they went back. So notwithstanding an act of God or Congress they'd do anything to stop radical realignment.

It may be the only choice we all have. The Power Five will likely move to 16 to 18 teams and I am not sure that teams like ECU, Marshall etc would be of benefit to them. If UCF and lets say Cincinnati were selected to go to a hybrid ACC or the Big 12 the AAC would have to look to expand. Expansion teams would likely be App State, Georgia Southern, etc. But whatever the case holds the next five years will be major step for our program. We must keep winning and building onto the solid foundation that we have in place.

The Power Five are not backing away from what they want, total control of the FCS football landscape, and I feel that they will get it. What becomes of the Group of Five? Who knows, but all we have to do is win and we will be mentioned in the highest levels of FBS football.
