Re: Jerry Moore will not return
THANK YOU COACH MOORE!
Sad to see this day. Coach Moore was hired my senior year at App. What a great run he has had.
David Jackson and crew should make a highlight CD of the past 24 years and give the proceeds to the Jerry Moore retirement fund. 4 disc box set? $100 bucks? I'd buy it.

Re: Jerry Moore will not return
When Jerry Moore was hired my thought at the time was ASU admins wanted him so the chances of losing him to another school was so low. He might retire, but given his age at the time I figured there was not a fear of him leaving for bigger and better. Having him for 5-6 years and retiring was better than hiring an up-and-comer and losing him in 3-4 years to a better paying program.
I don't think I have ever been more wrong about something, and happy to have been wrong.
I know the chances of Jerry reading this is about as good as me winning the lottery, which I don't play, but I still want to add -
Thank you Jerry Moore for all you did and more than likely will continue to do for Appalachian State!

Re: Jerry Moore will not return
It's a bittersweet day. On one hand I am happy for Jerry, and that he finally gets to enjoy his well-deserved retirement. On the other hand, I'm obviously sad that he won't be coaching for us any longer. This is the end of an era, and the beginning of a new one.
Thanks for everything Jerry!

Re: Jerry Moore will not return
Love the Coach, met him as a part of my Broadcasting degree, could not ask for a nicer person!
You will be missed Coach Moore!

Thanks, Jerry. I feel I owe you a personal debt of gratitude I can never repay. My son is 12 and the fun we have had together following your team for the last 7 years are some of the best times we have ever or will ever spend together as father and son. You were right-- it really is more than just a game.

Though he didn't coin the phrase Jerry truly made it Great To Be A Mountaineer. Enjoy retirement you have earned it Mr. Moore.

Re: Jerry Moore will not return
Thank you for everything, Coach Moore. You are a class act on an off the field. You're a man of integrity.
"Assistant head coach Scott Satterfield will serve as Appalachian State’s interim head coach while a nationwide search is conducted for the 20th head coach in program history."
How hard do you think we'll look? Is it likely going to Scott? I guess we'll wait and see what happens with this FBS move.

Re: Jerry Moore will not return
I think this is another hint that App is going FBS. I always thought Coach would stay until then, but I was betting he would hit 25 years. We will never have a long term class act for a head coach like Jerry Moore IMO. Thanks Coach Moore.

Re: Jerry Moore will not return
Thanks Coach Moore for putting our wonderful University on the national stage. I know you love this University and you put your heart and soul into it. Now, go and enjoy your retirement with your family. It is well deserved.
On a side note, Mrs. Moore kinda let the cat out the bag during one of the Yosef tour stops. I'll keep it at that, but I'm kinda wondering how far this "nationwide" search is going to go. I think they don't even get out of the city limits, unless a particular Assistant Head Coach lives outside the city limits.

Re: Jerry Moore will not return
IF it is true that this was decided before the season started, then Satterfield has to be the choice or else why would he have come back knowing that Jerry was leaving?

Satterfield said in teleconference he did not know of the agreement when he decided to come back.ebapps1 wrote:IF it is true that this was decided before the season started, then Satterfield has to be the choice or else why would he have come back knowing that Jerry was leaving?

I think that is sometime that should have been disclosed to Satterfield before he took the job.skjellyfetti wrote:Satterfield said in teleconference he did not know of the agreement when he decided to come back.ebapps1 wrote:IF it is true that this was decided before the season started, then Satterfield has to be the choice or else why would he have come back knowing that Jerry was leaving?

Re: Jerry Moore will not return
There is no way this thing will be a national search. They will do all the pub and put it in the press release and then in about a month we will have a press conference to announce Satterfield. He would have never come back if he hadn't known this and been promised the head coaching position. We shouldn't even try to speculate names.

You know you have a great coach when fans of other competing programs have great respect for him. It has truly been a great ride during the Jerry Moore era at ASU.

Re: Jerry Moore will not return
Actually, I don't think it is a foregone conclusion that it will be Satterfield. I think you might be surprised at the interest in this job. If after a real search, SS is the choice, I'll no problem. However, this is an important decision and we should chose the best fit for the job.Appersrule wrote:There is no way this thing will be a national search.
