MBB: RPI #24 Texas-Arlington(10-2) @ RPI #342 ASU(2-11) 7:30 HCC

Best team, by far, in the Fun Belt is in town tonight. The RPI #24 UT-A Mavericks, 10-2 record with wins over Ohio State, GaSt, GaSouth, Rice, UTEP, Fordham, Memphis and Bradley to name a few. The Mavericks will be seeking their seventh straight win; while the Apps will be trying to head off a crippling eighth straight loss.

'Tis a shame we have a team this strong visiting and we can't draw a crowd and put a competitive team on the court to face 'em.

The Apps are 20 point 'dogs in this one. Would be a great time to beat 'em at the buzzer and get this season turned around. Get after it, Apps!

Our scheduling while classes are not in session certainly hasn't done us any favors this season.

57-52 App with under 9 to play. This would be like a redux of Ga. State last year.

my take on this team.....tentative play often leads to errant passes and other rapidly lost confidence when a mistake or two happen. I love Fox and I like his system, but I feel like this group of players does not quite have the confidence to run his system smoothly/quickly. I know we have lots of new players getting lots of playing time. When I think of Davidson's similar offensive approach, there was always constant movement, but it was run fast and with lots of confidence, and with at least 4 or 5 guys on the floor who could knock down 3's. Tonight was vastly improved unless UTA just had an off night. We won this entire game until the last 4 minutes or so, when it counted.

The positive is that we were in the game start to finish. The negative is that this team can't shoot on a consistent basis. We shot the lights out in the first half and couldn't find the basket in the second half (27%). Let's not talk about FT shooting. It pains me to say this but we look like a bottom 10 team. I know there is a lot of youth out there but there are also plenty of experienced players as well. I was hoping that year 2 would show some improvement over year 1.

BTW, Real Time RPI projects a 4-27 record for the season with home wins over Ga Southern and So Alabama. Hopefully, that doesn't pan out that way otherwise it will be our worst record since Press Maravich's last team ('74-'75) won 3 games.

Well, those are game-by-game projections; I'm guessing a system that uses probabilities over a 17-game sample would forecast a slightly better record. Still awful, mind you, but slightly better.

Someone buy HapApp a drink. So much negativity. This team could have managed their RPI if that was their goal. In a "one bid" league, with a team made up primarily of Senior Contributors and first year hopefuls experience, evaluation and improvement has to be the goal. This year the conference tournament is the key. I realize they gotta get there, but this was a pretty tough stretch to start conference play. This team piled up losses playing the types of teams they want to be. Last year was the last hurrah of the old regime. This is really year 1. Have faith. The work and effort are there and as the talent improves it will get better. In light of what App has had for recent history i'd rather follow this team as they Rise Up than Grumble about a perrenial mid 200 RPI program that no one else watches. This has potential. Peace

I'm sorry that reporting the facts is grumbling.

We have played some good competition including UNC, Texas, and Hofstra. But we have also lost to teams that have an RPI of 245, 248, 265, and 275. Our SOS is 298, not exactly reflecting the toughest of schedules. In the SBC we currently rank last in scoring margin, FG%, FG% defense, 3pt FG defense, assists, steals, turnovers, assist to turnover margin, and defensive rebounds. The truth is we are not a very good basketball team right now. We can blame whomever we wish but that's the reality.

I understand that this is a process that requires patience and the faith that Coach Fox and his staff can get this headed in the right direction. However, I was hoping to see some improvement over last year's team that would have qualified for the conference tournament if eligible. We are only three games into conference play and perhaps we will see a dramatic turn around starting tomorrow afternoon. Perhaps, we will have to take several steps backward in order to move forward.

My main pre-season concern was that there would be nobody on the roster to replace Spagnolo's production in the post....looks like that's the case thus far. We need a post player who can consistently rebound and score and at least 2 players other than Eaves who can consistently score in double figures. I trust Fox, though. Be patient.

Interesting stat: App State v. RPI top 100 0-5 Average margin of defeat 9.4 points
App State v. RPI 200+ 0-7 Average margin of defeat 17.3 points

Also of note: App State plays no one currently ranked 100-200. The remaining opponents on the schedule are either top 100 or 200+.

66, no need for apologies. We all have our issues, the difference being yours is not of your own doing. Prayers for your condition sir, one that our Saviour will help you in your time of need, and two that, when and if it comes down to it, you will find the comfort and the ways to mitigate it. I appreciate your posts and hope they continue for some time to come. Thanks!
