I can truly say that the Appalachian experience gave me my life. I played a little football and later joined the newly formed ROTC program. After graduation I entered the Army, met my wife, had four children and retired after serving 23 years. I'm now a retiree on a fixed income. I'm clearly not rich. But, I promised myself that I would pay Appalachian back for giving me an opportunity. I give every month, not a lot, but I do it consistently. I believe that someday my contribution will amount to something. That's my way of saying "thank you."
