Re: Georgia Southern Completes Scheduling
App's original FBS non-conference philosophy was 1 FCS game, 2 H&H's and 1 money game per year. That lasted one year.
I also look at ULM, who scheduled very similar with emphasis on money games, except they are actually poor. ULM decided to go away from that and already have H&H's with Memphis, Southern Miss and New Mexico. And that's all in recent memory.
The example of Marshall having to wait years to schedule P5's at home is especially funny given that every recent move-up except GS has done it.

Re: Georgia Southern Completes Scheduling
But that FCS win isn't going to get them a "bigger" bowl game, in fact it could hurt them. Any SBC that wins the conference will go to NOLA or Mobile then it comes down to proximity to the bowl site. Unless GS is worried about getting to six wins that FCS game isn't going to help them. Plus it hurts when trying to sale season tickets.Omnismash wrote:If the idea is just to get that extra "win" to increase their chances of getting into a bowl, I get it. It won't cost them too much money, and it'll pay off at the end of the year if they land in a bigger bowl game. What would make me most upset, is not playing a decent G5 team. I love App football, but if we had all or most of our OOC home games as FCS, it'd be hard for me to drive up on a week day (not so much on a weekend if I wanted to go really badly) to watch the game, I'd rather sit comfortably at home.
I do think their AD is trying his butt off, but I stick with my original statement. No one wants to visit the stink.
You are spot on with the last line.

If we were just talking P5s it would be one thing. We know that can be a challenge. But they won't (excuse me - "can't") even schedule any decent G5 home-and-homes. I don't buy any of his excuses for that.T-Dog wrote:App's original FBS non-conference philosophy was 1 FCS game, 2 H&H's and 1 money game per year. That lasted one year.

I wouldn't be surprised to see App use the 1-2-1 blueprint in the future. I think what we might do is line up the money game and two G5s, then hold that last home game in hopes of lining up something big, with the idea that you can usually fill it with an FCS late in the process. Or do the reverse (schedule an FCS and buy them out if needed), like we did with Central.

I thought we "postponed" our game with Central. I never remember hearing "cancelled" used.EastHallApp wrote: If we were just talking P5s it would be one thing. We know that can be a challenge. I believe you're right that the plan is to reschedule them, but my understanding was that we had to pay them for that agreement.CVAPP wrote:I thought we "postponed" our game with Central. Re: Georgia Southern Completes Scheduling
If they needed paid for that they must not plan on being invited back. I could care less if we ever play them again. There are more exciting FCS teams I would rather see us play if it comes down to needing to fill a date that way.EastHallApp wrote:CVAPP wrote:EastHallApp wrote: I believe you're right that the plan is to reschedule them, but my understanding was that we had to pay them for that agreement.

I don't know. If I'm going for a FCS payday, I'm not interested in exciting. I want easy and relatively boring.CVAPP wrote:If they needed paid for that they must not plan on being invited back. I understand where you are coming from and can't really disagree, but I would like to see us tee it up with likes of WCU, ETSU, hell even the Vermins for old time's sake. I am sure these schools, with perhaps the exception of ETSU, fetch a higher price than the Howards and NCCUs. I actually prefer a schedule with no FCS teams. If we have to schedule down, I suggest we get a more meaningful game. I am not worried so much about losing as I am about how many up show to watch. WCU, if we could afford them, would likely pack KBS.AppinVA wrote: I don't know. If I'm going for a FCS payday, I'm not interested in exciting. I want easy and relatively boring.

If I'm looking at this correctly GS has a few years coming up where they only have 5 home games. Lmao damn.

Yikes! Figured we'd surpass GSU at some point, didn't know it'd be so soon with scheduling.diehardapp18 wrote:If I'm looking at this correctly GS has a few years coming up where they only have 5 home games. Lmao damn.

Haha, I should of clarified a bit more. I already knew we were better, but it's been pretty close to me for a while, but this is just a different level.AppinVA wrote:We did. Re: Georgia Southern Completes Scheduling
When we play an FCS school in the future, it will not be a CAA, SoCon or even Big South team. Those teams are only going to play a FBS school that will pat at a minimum of $300k. We are not going to nor can we afford to do this. The only way it could happen in an FCS gets dumped and needs an emergency game and we do too.

Interesting in 2021 that we have no money game. I wonder how that will work with budgeting?

@ Wyoming
@ Miami
Marshall
Best case scenario we'll be holding out for a regional home and home so we can maximize the gate. Fall back will be an inexpensive FCS.
