Just got error message blocking me from viewing posts on YC until the site is whitelisted on my ad blocker. The notice indicates that ads are the way the site is supported and I must allow them in order to access content.
Although I installed the ad blocker specifically because of difficulties caused by the ads on YC several months back, I also understand that lots of people volunteer their time to make this happen and know the site needs to be supported.
I just wonder if the administrators could use the site - through sticky posts or a temporary masthead - to let users know of significant changes that are coming or notify us of scheduled maintenance.

Thanks for the post. We definitely do try to make posts regarding maintenance or significant changes and have done so many times in the past. In this case, because this change only affects a handful of users, a warning is displayed, but only for those using an ad blocking service, which is why you are aware of the change.
