Re: Are BCS schools really scared to play us
I think it depends on when the game took place during the season. I realize UNC is a bigger draw to their fans but make no mistake, WVU fans travel well. I took my dad and brother (both graduated from the University of African American Studies) to the Meineke Car Care Bowl several years back and WVU fans came out in force. I'm not sure App moves the meter with them but if it happened to be the first game of the year, I don't believe attendance numbers would be an issue.Yosef10 wrote:Would love the game but I don't see why we would play WVU at BoA. I could see BoA with maybe a USC just because we're both close but I don't think APP-WVU would have great attendance numbers

Is this a "wish list" thread or based on some real rumors?

Re: Are BCS schools really scared to play us
Looks like this thread has gone through several iterations from the original title but I would say most of the P5 are not scared to play us at this point. It is more of a consideration of whether it works into the respective school's plan (i.e. schedule strength, financials, location, scheduling,etc.).
Schedule Strength: For P5's it depends on whether they want a stronger G5 team, we are on our way towards bringing a respectable SOS addition to their schedule. IMO, I think in the CFP world, our perceived and real strength to their schedule probably overrides the face that we are G5. This is less like the days of FCS.
Location: The P5 normally has the leverage so they depending on their situation they are going to prefer a home only no return. Depending on financial viability they might consider a neutral site. I would think last option is home and home but there has to be some reason for them (recruiting area, gap in schedule, etc.). Boone isn't exactly a place that is going to provide a recruiting area so for us it is more often going to be an opportunity to fill a gap in schedule, i.e. Miami.

Re: Are BCS schools really scared to play us
On this point, the P5/G5 home-and-homes are actually becoming more common, because it's gotten so expensive for a P5 to schedule a home-only game vs. a G5 that for many it actually makes more financial sense to play them home-and-home. Unfortunately, as you say, we have the lack of recruiting benefit working against us. Plus, they'll never say it publicly, but I doubt it helps that we're actually good enough to have a realistic shot at beating most P5s.AtlAppMan wrote:

Re: Are BCS schools really scared to play us
As I said much earlier in this thread.....None of the top tier P5's are scared of us..respectful yes..scared no. Now the lower tier of the P5's
are VERY concerned with playing us..aka the WFU look alikes and the Academy schools. There is little benefit to their programs and a possible loss of recruits. I still say until we beat somebody we need to reign in the post Michigan bravado.
