Re: RE: Re: Expansion Carousel Starting Back Up
They just came a few points away from being the National Championin football while in the Atlantic Coast Conference. They would just be one of the boys in the SEC. Week end week out they would be playing a much tougher schedule. Besides, their academics are a little tougher than most of the SEC schools. That in itself could make the recruiting playing field uneven.mountaineerman wrote:Why would they want to stay?NewApp wrote:Why would Clemson want to leave the ACC anyway?MtnMan09 wrote:No way any of the Texas schools let Houston into that conference. SEC is all about the Benjamins. They dwarf what the ACC brings in.
In fact, in the P5, the ACC provides the lowest amount of conference revenue per member, inclusive of basketball.

Re: Expansion Carousel Starting Back Up
According to all the reports this week, the new deal announced by the ACC with ESPN puts them firmly in third place in revenue among the P5. With their grant of rights extended through 2036, ain't nobody going nowhere from the ACC. That announcement was also what prompted the Big 12 to resume expansion talks, and that isn't conjecture, as Oklahoma's president said exactly that in an interview yesterday.
With regard to Big 12 expansion, Houston is going to be one of the teams. The governor of Texas tweeted that Houston should be in the Big 12 and the president of the University of Texas tweeted that he supported Houston for admission. That's about as close to a done deal as it can get.

Re: Expansion Carousel Starting Back Up
I could see Houston and Cincinnati being added as full members with BYU and someone else (UCF?) added as football only due to BYU having the ban on Sunday games.

Nothing wrong with taking the shot although I agree that the B12 is unrealistic. If they continue making noise when opportunities arise, it could keep them on the radar in the event that another opportunity comes up though. I can't blame them for putting it out there.

By the same token Gillin should openly throw our hat in the ring for the AAC.Yosef84 wrote:Nothing wrong with taking the shot although I agree that the B12 is unrealistic. Hopefully if CUSA needs a team from the Sunbelt then they will call ole Charlie Cobb and stay on their path of giant big city schools with little tradition or support. They have a giant hole in George with their footprint.

That's nice. Maybe they should have had some foresight and accepted the Sun Belt's invite when it still stood, seeing as the MAC, CUSA, and Sun Belt have no need for them. Don't bite the hand that offers to feed you.bcoach wrote:Lots of talk up here about JMU wanting a home real bad

There was talk of that a few years ago under the BCS system but last year proved an ACC team doesn't need an SEC schedule to get into the playoff.NewApp wrote:Why would Clemson want to leave the ACC anyway?

If they have an opening, I totally agree, except maybe with the "openly" part.AppDawg wrote:By the same token Gillin should openly throw our hat in the ring for the AAC.Yosef84 wrote:Nothing wrong with taking the shot although I agree that the B12 is unrealistic. The ACC had 4 schools in the elite 8 and 2 in the final four. There is nothing overrated about that.NewApp wrote:mountaineerman wrote:so... Maybe the acc isnt that bad after all ??? or maybe the sec may be a little media overrated??
