Re: ECU vs APP
I find agreement with all the aforementioned arguments and POVs, but we gotta start thinking bigger. To be successful sometimes you gotta dream big going through the growth pains. We have moved to he big time and gotta start acting like it somewhat and appreciate where we have been and where we are going. Lots of big fan programs schedule games on neutral sites. We need to see it as an opportunity and realize the benefits for recruitment playing in Panther Stadium. Charlotte has large alum community and home to lot of students. These alums don't necessarily make it up the mountain every week so I think the backyard aspect and fact lot of students will seize opportunity to travel to one isolated game in this environment. I don't underestimate our fanbase growth especially with time for growth before future event of this magnitude. I see some some offsets by home at Boone comparisons when your only talking about one time.
My problem is scheduling and unknowns of will UNCC have home game that date or will Panthers play at home that week to distract.

I'll wait to pass judgment until we get the details but how we decide to split the take from the neutral site game will be something that makes a difference for me too. Also, if we are considered the home team it allows us to invite recruits as well. We only have the ability to invite a limited number to The Rock for the Miami game but we could invite everybody to BOA Stadium.

Re: ECU vs APP
My initial reaction is the series should be equitable. H+H+Neutral+Neutral, or whatever combination thereof, but App should not be giving up a home game to the likes of ECU at this point. They may have a bigger following, but they also have nearly 3 times the student body. It is, of course, way too early to pas judgement on rumors and having to go 5+ years out for game 1 could mean anything for either program.
Going into this season, I like App State's schedule and chances of making a splash on the national stage better than ECU, but 5 years from now their new HC could prove to have built a formidable program and our current HC could be coaching for millions of dollars at a P5 program somewhere leaving us rebuilding. Of course ECU could just as easily find themselves still languishing in the coaching carousel, and Satterfield could have App State positioned a bit like Boise State or Houston are today . . . the point being, App Administration should push hard for even home games for both programs.

Re: ECU vs APP
I'd say it due more to our stadium size than anything else. Miami is a much bigger name, but they won't have as many fans wanting to come to Boone as ECU. We took 8-10k to their place a few years back to give them one of their biggest crowds ever. How would we accommodate that many for them while meeting our own ticket demand? I'd guess it would be a rotation of Greenville, Charlotte, Greenville, Boone to give us time to expand.

Home and home or nothing. We should not, under any circumstances, do any other kind of deal with a G5 program. Throwing in a third game at a neutral site is fine, but there is no G5 program anywhere that we should give an uneven deal. I'd just as soon not play them at all than to do this deal.

Re: ECU vs APP
It would have to be on a Panthers away game, bye, or before the pro season began. I don't think UNCC's schedule would have any impact on the turnout whatsoever. In fact I'd love to have the city talking about the Apps on a weekend they're playing at home.CornCobPipes wrote:\My problem is scheduling and unknowns of will UNCC have home game that date or will Panthers play at home that week to distract.

Re: ECU vs APP
All I've got to say on this is please DO NOT schedule the game for NOON in late August or September in Greenville!! I have never been so hot in all my 50+ years as the last game we played there in 2012. My son will graduate from ECU in December so the family would enjoy the rivalry games, but two in Greenville is not quite fair.

Agree that UNCC would not have much relevance for us.Gonzo wrote:It would have to be on a Panthers away game, bye, or before the pro season began. I expect the Panthers would not be at home the next day simply because two games on consecutive days could result in poor field conditions for the NFL. But as far as a distraction, I don't think that would really be an issue, and in fact could make for a cool attraction for out-of-town fans: catch the college game Saturday, spend the night, go to the Panthers game Sunday.
Of course, the BofA game could also be on a Thursday night. Cue hand-wringing now...

Re: ECU vs APP
If this comes to fruition, I'd like to see the rotation as Greenville, Boone, Greenville then Charlotte with a caveat that if KBS is expanded to x number of seats (30k), the Charlotte game moves to Boone. This gives the Pirates assurances that their fans can attend either location for the last game while motivating ours to contribute and expand.JTApps1 wrote:I'd guess it would be a rotation of Greenville, Charlotte, Greenville, Boone to give us time to expand.

Re: ECU vs APP
I don't have a problem with it, KBS just can't handle the demand an ECU would bring at this point. I'd like to see it arranged this way: Charlotte, Greenville, Boone, Greenville, and then renewed Boone, Greenville, etc for many years to come.

Re: ECU vs APP
Where did this notion come from that we have to set aside 1/3 of our stadium for the other team. Expand to 30k so we can give 1 school a year 10k seats... Makes zero sense to me. High demand and limited # of tickets sounds like a profit making opportunity to me.
Guess homefield advantage has gone out the window. Give them 5k tix if they sell them out great! If we have remaining availability left after our fans have purchased we'll throw some their way.
The Miami game this year, Wake next and Marshall soon after should go a long way to put to bed this concept.

If this is all to happen, why don't we wait to see the actual details of the negotiations.

Re: ECU vs APP
I personally don't have a problem with one of the games being played in Charlotte. In fact, it does offer the strategic advantage of making UNCC less relevant right in their own backyard. Being in Charlotte may not exactly be to the liking of App fans, but you can imagine what Judy Rose's reaction to the announcement will be. She won't be a happy camper!
