I think my main criticism is playing more than one non-D1 team. Agree that Warren Wilson sounds awfully low-level, but could understand either them or Montreat but not both.

On the plus side, future home schedules should look a lot better if/when we get return games from Davidson and Charlotte. Also, looking forward to hopefully attending the games at State and Duke.

Why?
For me it is, "Treat others as you would like to be treated".

Understand, but I don't think that's how scheduling works. No program is going to say, "Well we weren't going to schedule a home-and-home with App State, but once they played Warren Wilson, we realized what nice guys they were, so now Boone here we come!"

Besides, I don't really think the comparison applies. Off the top of my head, I'd guess probably about 98% of D1 games are against other D1 teams. We're a D1 mid-major with a decent-sized arena. Us playing high-end mid-majors and non-elite high majors is a much smaller step up than playing non-D1 teams is as a step down. This isn't like FBS vs. FCS in football - much bigger dropoff than that. If we want to play lower-level teams, get more MEAC and SWAC teams on the slate.

Not a whole lot of difference between us and Wilson and us and Duke. Take a chill pill. We have a long way to go to perk the interest of a lot of Div 1 teams. Just as Duke and State on the schedule may entice players to come, a terrible win loss record will not. What exactly have we done in a very long time to attract a better schedule than this? I think they have done a pretty good job on this. Me thinks sometimes we as fans get a little to big for our britches.

FWIW, the Methodist date is just an exhibition. It's essentially a scrimmage with our fancy, new home unis. This "game" will not count in our W/L record. It's a dress rehearsal to get the new guys a chance to break in their Nike Kyrie 2 LEs and throw some elbows at somebody new.

Do you consider Duke a "non-elite high major"? I'll go out on a limb and say they're an elite program.

Regardless, I'm not talking about road-only games. We can always get those against powerhouse programs - they're not doing us any sort of favor.

I'm talking about teams we can get to come to Boone. In terms of alternatives to non-D1 teams as likely wins, that just means low-major D1 teams - hence my reference to the MEAC and SWAC (as well as other area teams).

If the idea that App could schedule the likes of NC A&T or SC Upstate is "too big for our britches," then we need some bigger britches.

That's fine, we don't have to agree. My main point was the first thing I wrote: No bigger program will schedule us just because we "treated others as we'd like to be treated." I'm sure everyone in our basketball program and AD office realizes that and had other reasons for playing these games.

I go along with that 100%. I don't go along with the"treated others as we'd like to be treated." thing as far as scheduling either.

Lack of scheduling hustle? Need to save to make budget?
That's what I do. I gripe and I know things.

Our number one objective is to start winning games and become a quality D1 program. I hate the weaklings on our schedule but until we can get ourselves out of the ditch we may have to deal with it.

Just win and then we improve schedule.

Any idea when away game tickets will go on sale? Living in the Triangle I'm definitely interested in tickets to both Duke and NC State.

They don't usually get away tickets for public sale in basketball. I called about this last year for the UNC game, and they eventually did get a block because so many seats were available, but they weren't particularly good seats (I had visions of sitting behind the bench).

Whether App gets any or not, I'm sure tickets for the State game will be easily available both through State and below face value on the secondary market.

From what I've heard, it shouldn't be too hard or expensive to get tickets to the Duke game either, especially with it being Thanksgiving weekend.
