The fake field goal was the dumbest play I have seen in a long time.
A win is a win but if we play like this next week we will get stomped.

Re: ODU Game Day chat
I completely agree. Everyone around us asked what the hell was that play? Was Rubino supposed to take a pitch? As soon as he headed sideways everyone knew what was coming. We played soft and were fortunate ODU missed on several open passes. Don't get me wrong I will take a win. Someone please tell me that ODU is much better than last year! I think Taylor is a good QB and I have never been one to clamor for the backup but man, JP might be really good- just my gut feeling.bcoach wrote:The fake field goal was the dumbest play I have seen in a long time.

That play totally changed the momentum that led to their only score. I would have thought they wanted to give Rubino some game experience kicking. The more opportunities he gets early on, the more confidence he gains for key situations later.

I also don't understand why we went for it on 4th and 2 on the 35 late in the 4th. Even though we picked it up, wouldn't that have been a great practice kick for rubino? See how he handled a 45+ yarder in a real game situation, without the pressure being on?

Didn't help that our announcer said that Critcher was kicking the first PAT.. Then corrected it. We all wondered if there was a switch. I also thought it was the perfect time to let Rubino take a shot at a decent range FG.The Rock wrote:I also don't understand why we went for it on 4th and 2 on the 35 late in the 4th. Announcer gaffed a few times. Meaders made a play on defense. Really need to get names right.

Yeah....announcer kind of sucked yesterday. Also music was once again not well orchestrated. That said, the speakers did sound a lot betterbigdaddyg wrote:Didn't help that our announcer said that Critcher was kicking the first PAT.. Then corrected it. We all wondered if there was a switch. Re: ODU Game Day chat
After having some time to think about yesterday's game, I agree with your thoughts. After running out to a big lead App took their foot off the peddle and starting fine tuning others areas. A "scrimmage" kind of thing, in laymen terms. And, you know ODU is a pretty fair team (not great and not bad either). Although I'm somewhat concerned over our passing game, things should work out for the better. No doubt this coming Saturday will be a big test, or should I say huge opportunity for our entire program. Go Apps!!hotrod2001 wrote:I just feel as if they throttled ODU in the beginning, got themselves a comfortable lead, realized that our defense was no match for their offense and then just kind of took it easy for the rest of the game and saved themselves for Miami.
A wins a win, it was obvious that we were the better team and I don't feel that they were going 100% but then again they didn't really need to. Next week they'll be full boar.

Taylor Lamb is better than Richie Williams. Obviously.CornCobPipes wrote:Guess I'm just getting antsy......been a long long long time since we have had a real stud QB going back to AE and Richie days ......I realize at the level we are now may be long long time before we see one again.

Lamb is a D1 FBS level QB...period. RW was great during his time. Back when he played we don't sign a QB like TL.Gonzo wrote:Taylor Lamb is better than Richie Williams. Exactly. Like, I enjoyed my N64 when I was a kid but my Xbox One is better.bigdaddyg wrote:Lamb is a D1 FBS level QB...period. RW was great during his time. Re: ODU Game Day chat
I agree about the fake FG. The coaches know Rubino struggled last week, why not get him as much game time experience as possible? To add to the stupidity of the call, they allowed Critcher to run the ball. He's our starting punter! It's not like the D didn't see what was coming when Rubino went out wide. If this is the play you want to run where there's no deception, why not put someone with speed as the holder (ie. Capel, Hopkins or even Caruso).

I think Rubino went in motion too early and it crumbled the entire play.moonshine wrote:I agree about the fake FG. I also would have liked to see Rubino kick, kick and kick some more. At the same time, I think that fake was nothing more than putting something else on film to cause our future opponents to spend time preparing for.

I was also baffled by the fake play call but obviously somebody blew the execution. Might have worked if it were run properly. It gave ODU momentum.

I didn't get that at all, WX. There was still too much of the obnoxious music and they played it too much when we had the ball too often to right before the snap.WXAPP wrote:Do I also notice... that the obnoxious in-between the plays music has been cut.. or scaled back, and the band is the main driver of tone? Re: ODU Game Day chat
That's what I was saying. The FG he did kick was almost extra point distance. This one would have been a bit longer at least and it was the perfect situation to help him build confidence. Definitely a head scratcherhapapp wrote:That play totally changed the momentum that led to their only score. I would have thought they wanted to give Rubino some game experience kicking. Re: ODU Game Day chat
Yes and it was run exactly like the one against GaState - the kicker goes in motion to draw the defense with him - yesterday 2 ODU guys moved out of the box - Fernandez pulled and actually threw a pretty good block but the ODU defender made a very good play - when we ran it against GaState it was either McElfresh or BoBo who was the holder ---S.Lewis15 wrote:The fake field goal was the same play we ran against Georgia State 2 years ago.

Played it the entire time that the band entered the stadium and then immediately after the band played the fight song and over the drum section as they did their thing.AppinATL wrote:I didn't get that at all, WX. What's the reason to play it when we have the ball?

While we are complaining about things, the "entrance video" is lame in my opinion. I know Sean Connery is a polarizing subject, but to me, it falls flat, and is out of place. There really is no buildup and is anti climatic.
