For ONE game we will draw 35k. It has nothing to do with pessimism it is just a fact. Nothing to be ashamed of just a fact. When was the last time we filled the place? If we need MIAMI to come here to fill the place we are just not that large a fan base. I am proud that the fans we do have are loud and proud and travel with the best of them.Gonzo wrote:Defeatist delusion. We're about to cram 35k into the Rock. We could fill 40k+ if we had the seats.
In what pessimistic parallel universe do you people live in??? Not a place I want to visit.
"We don't have a big fan base" Laughable.

Re: East Side Stands
So the 10k who are there next week who were not there yesterday aren't fans? Is 35,000 people not a lot of people?
I understand being prudent with regards to expansion, but saying we don't have many fans is asinine.

To claim a big fanbase we need to get to 30,000+ on a weekly basis. We were there before and can get back to it, but the few lean years from 2012-2014 cost us co e of the bandwagon fans. A win over Miami wou, d go a long way to energizing the 5,000 or so casual fans we had showing up through 2010.

Re: East Side Stands
We've NEVER had 30,000 plus on a weekly basis. You guys need to go back and look. We've cracked 30k a total of 7 times, most recently against Montana four years ago. We need to be realistic. Lets keep striving to increase the numbers, but all this angst is a waste of our energies.JTApps1 wrote:To claim a big fanbase we need to get to 30,000+ on a weekly basis. So, how did you like your seats in the "rowdiest section at The Rock" (per David Jackson)??Gonzo wrote:Our seats are in the East side lower level. Can't see the upper section from there but every one in my field of vision was packed: student sections including the temp EZ, West side upper level, hill, and the lower East side sections.
The crowd was loud. The people that left seemed to be alums. Only the students in the temp ez section left before the end of the 4th.
Solid day for App Nation given the second trip to up a Mountain in as many weeks.
Give it a rest with the complaining.

This! Like it or not, we have an attendance problem. (don't throw up the UM game, that is an outlier.)JTApps1 wrote:Pretty sad to have less than 24,000 for the season opener especially after the performance last week. People need to get their butts in Boone every week. The crowd that was there made lots of noise early until the game got boring.

Gonzo, I agree with you 100 percent. My seats are right above you in 213. I believe that the westside looked much better than last year. The students were great! The band rocked all day, including marching throughout the campus, visiting tailgate sites. I saw quite a bit of aluminum in the upper deck around me, but I truly think that we have made some improvement from last year. It was a scorcher on the eastside, but for the most part we hung tough to the end.

No what is asinine is basing your fan base claims on one single game in the history of the school. We just do not have the fan base to consistently fill the stadium much less expand it. More empty seats are not going to make us look any better to anyone.Gonzo wrote:So the 10k who are there next week who were not there yesterday aren't fans? Is 35,000 people not a lot of people?

I have also not seen anyone say we "don't have many fans". What has been said is we don't have as many as some would like to think.

We like it. I didn't feel weird standing and yelling when the Apps were on defense. Most folks around us joined in especially for the important moments. We met some really nice people all around us.App74 wrote:So, how did you like your seats in the "rowdiest section at The Rock" (per David Jackson)??Gonzo wrote:Our seats are in the East side lower level. It was sunny over there though. We had sun screen but my fair-skinned lady had to go stand up under the bleachers for a bit at one point. If I didn't have polarized sunglasses on I'd probably be blind

Re: East Side Stands
I'm glad people on the East side thought the crowd was loud. We are on the 4th row of 202 and I thought that was one of the more quiet crowds we have had in a long time. Hopefully it was louder on the field. I know sitting where we are, all of the student section sound is directed away from us. Was happy to get to sit near Julian Rauch's family as well as some of the other HOF inductee's families. All in all, great day at The Rock. Can't wait for my butt to be back in my seat at 10:05 next week! Go Apps!

Re: East Side Stands
It doesn't matter how many "fans" we have. What matters is how many folks are willing to make the trip on any given weekend for a non-historic game. Right now, it seems like that number is around 25k. That's not defeatist, it is what it is. No one is saying we can't make enhancements that improve people's experience today, and pave the way for possible expansion in the future.

Re: East Side Stands
Exactly who is complaining, Gonz? Considering this was the Saturday just prior to arguably what might be the biggest home game in our history. It was a fairly sizeable crowd. Not just everybody can make two good home games in succession.Gonzo wrote:Our seats are in the East side lower level.
