Post season question for next year
If Appalachian accepts a bid from an FBS conference in the next month or two would we be automatically out of the FCS playoffs and all post season play for next year? Is there anyway to still play in the playoffs next season? Would there be any post season opportunities for this group of players?

Re: Post season question for next year
ODU was eligible for the playoffs this year but ineligible for the CAA autobid. I'm guessing the same would hold true for ASU?
This is all a guess, but I think it has to do with scholarships during the transition. I have to assume that ODU stayed at 63 and thus will continue to do so until they formally join CUSA and go to 85?

Re: Post season question for next year
If ASU accepts a bid to a FBS confewrence in the next month and--
1)they can give the SoCon a 2 year notification that they are leaving--and be eligible for the FCS playoffs next yr.
2)they can give the SoCon a 1 year notification and start upgrading scholarships this year--not eliigible for FCS playoffs.
I f we get a invite soon, I would look for options 2.

Re: Post season question for next year
If I recall, if App accepts an invitation to a FBS conference before June 30 (not sure on the exact date), then App will be ineligible for the playoffs. If App accepts an invite after that date, then they will be eligible. That was the case for ODU, they accepted the C-USA invite after that specified date.

Actually, ODU will be an FBS independent next year and thus, ineligible for the playoffs.

They do have a conference but I believe they won't be joining CUSA until 2014.

I hate to think of this group returning and not having one more shot at the playoffs. I am guessing that is what is going to happen though.

Gotta draw the line somewhere. There will be a group or two that have a shot at neither the playoffs nor a bowl. Either way, they will hold a special place in Appalachian State football history.bh2oson wrote:I hate to think of this group returning and not having one more shot at the playoffs. A lot of these guys came to ASU knowing we were moving up, and some even said that was one key reason they chose ASU.

Re: Post season question for next year
I guess what it comes down to for me is being selfish and wanting as many home games as possible.
Any chance we play 12 games next season with the way the schedule falls?

Re: Post season question for next year
I assume we will play a 12-game schedule, since we have 4 conference road games plus games at Montana and at Georgia. We will have to play a 12-game schedule to have 6 home games.
