App State and ECU need to form a New Conference

Unread post by appgrunt71 » Fri Sep 09, 2016 1:23 pm

In this morning's Greensboro News and Record Ed Hardin wrote a column entitled, "East Carolina needs a New League, and We can Help." While the title suggests that the article is all about ECU, it's not. Hardin clearly wants ECU in a regional conference relevant to the fans of NC. He sees the center of gravity in this new conference, however, as App State.

Please go to the News and Record website and read the column. I think you will be amazed. And, Hardin is asking for our input and involvement. I plan to call him. Apparently, he thinks we, collectively, can make a difference. This is an opportunity that we can't overlook!!!

Bad things always happen to conferences that ECU is in, we should probably stay away.

ECU beat State yesterday. A great victory. In their exuberance a ECU player was quoted as saying, "We want to let everyone know we run this state." I don't knock him for saying it, ECU has a great record against NCSU and UNC and frankly against us as FCS in the last many years. But things have changed. You can't ignore or avoid App State when claiming to own the state!

Would be a worst case scenario if the P5 and G5 do split. I think I could see a scenario where App was invited to the AAC before this happens.

I din't think it was all that well written, more like a stream of rambling consciousness. Although he sort of stayed on point for most of the article the overplaying of ECU's football program prominence will read well only to other ECU fans. State and CHeat couldn't care less about ECU, in fact NC State had to sell back several thousand tickets to Saturday's game because State fans just don't care enough about the game to be bothered.

Outside of the over inflated ego issue, I do see the logic in creating a conference of App St, ECU, Stink, Navy, UCF, etc. Certainly the fan bases would find it easier to get more college football experience if we're not travelling across the country...

The best day for APP football posterity was joining to the SunBelt, the next best day to come in APP football history will be leaving the SunBelt.

So, I am not sure what is going on here in Greensboro - but they have had several news stories (most all from the W-SJ) in the News and Record. Most times, we are just a foot note in the box scores. And then Ed Hardin (WCU grad) writes about us - although ECU was the head line... but I am grateful that they are at least starting to show us some love (ok, my be just 'like').

FWIW NCSU did have to give back tickets, but it was only a couple hundred (around 250) and not several thousand. NCSU fans should probably start caring about ECU seeing as they have lost 9 out of the last 14 meetings against the Pirates.
