Re: Meadors
The playcalling will need to be creative this week, they know we would love to just run the ball down there throat, I don't think Tennessee was prepared for that, but Miami will, we will have to throw the ball. Having said that, In Lamb's defense of not opening it up, a sack is usually better than throwing an interception.

Re: Meadors
Against UT App just kept pounding the ball as it shortened the game and was working. Against ODU App got the big lead and then went totally vanilla on offense. Against Miami I expect App will have to pass more to open up the running game. Miami's defense has looked super so far, especially against the run (and inferior competition). Lamb's record as a starter speaks for itself. That said I think Caruso is a good backup and would likely make App and even more run heavy offense as that appears to be his strength.

Re: Meadors
With mostly senior's in the secondary I'd expect we see a lot of balls going to Barrett to put some pressure on those young linebackers. Force them into coverage in the passing game to keep them honest for our run game.

Re: Meadors
We wont face a better secondary that Tennessee's this year. We also wont face a better passing team this year that Miami. If we can get pressure on their QB he will fall apart. If we don't he will pick us apart.

Re: Meadors
Yes believe we'll have to blitz more to get that pressure, especially if their QB is immobile as people say he is.

Re: Meadors
Watched some of the Miami/FAU game and came away thinking we can get the better of their OL. FAU was putting a ton of pressure on Kaaya, and I doubt their DL is as good or deep as ours. The Canes defense was very aggressive, and the Owls OL was having a lot of trouble picking up their blitz. When FAU gave the QB time their WR did have some openings in the secondary. Miami was able to recover quickly when out of position due to their speed which isn't surprising.

Re: Meadors
You don't keep the ball on a read option unless there is a reason to. It has little to do with trusting the back-up.Goapps15 wrote:I never said JP was a better player, just that they are both very similar.TheMackAttack wrote:You guys are ridiculous. If Caruso was better than Lamb he wouldn't have spent the last 27 games backing him up. Lamb is a better QB. This time last year I would have even gone so far as to bet that Caruso never started a game for App State. He's a hard worker and a good teammate, but let's not get carried away.
I do believe they (coaches) trust JP though, otherwise you wouldn't see Taylor keeping the ball as often on option plays. If they didn't believe their backup could step up they would limit his hits as best as possible. That's where I was coming from more or less.

If you didn't have a backup you wouldn't allow Taylor to keep it often. Similar to what UT did with Dobbs vs us. They don't have a backup.ericsaid wrote:You don't keep the ball on a read option unless there is a reason to. Re: Meadors
If there was any real Starting QB Controversy, Satterfield would have no problem making the right decision. Just look at what he did in 2014; sitting Kam Bryant and starting the Freshman Taylor Lamb.
Lamb is good for now, his arm isn't the best/his decision making is great, but we don't need a rocket arm QB to win games with the running game we have.

Re: Meadors
I think the main concern is that as teams get more athletic, the windows get smaller. Lamb would've had a completion on that Cam Sutton INT against UT if it were anybody but Cam Sutton, who had two routes covered on that particular play.S.Lewis15 wrote:If there was any real Starting QB Controversy, Satterfield would have no problem making the right decision. Re: Meadors
This^^ Throw in the fact that we run a 3-4 which should confuse them up front. They seem to think that we have shown them our whole playbook.JTApps1 wrote:Watched some of the Miami/FAU game and came away thinking we can get the better of their OL.
