That interview with the MAC Commissioner had me yelling at the TV more than any play on the field did. I also thought the announcers were more biased than the SEC crew in Knoxville. They spent much of the 1st quarter giving us the scholastic transfer history of the Zip players as opposed to actually discussing the game was taking place in front of them.

As for the play on the field, I thought there was much improvement in the offense. Certainly the passing game, which really had no where to go but up (at least in terms of play calling), and Moore showed the world he's ready to carry the load of the running attack. On defense, the d-backs are getting better, but still have work to do. I'd like to have seen even more pressure on the Zip QB, and hope that improves against GaSt.

They also kept saying how Moore learned to run last week when Cox went out of the game. I kept yelling at the TV, "Check your stats on Moore!!! He has the record for most yards in a game!!!!" Darn, they were pissing me off. Like Moore just got his first touches last week against Miami.

I dont like to see any back (JM) get 39 carries in a game. I still think Taylor waits until the receives get open to throw...needs a lot of timing work with this new group. D Line is solid and the Oline is a beast. Not sure I like Satt's strategy of not getting in receivers faces and allowing short passes. I know he wants to avoid big plays but allowing teams to march down the field with a passive pass def strategy hoping our dline gets sacks is not always the best way.

Yes but we also have to take into account that it is not real TV it is ESPN3

But it was real TV. It was ASN. Similar to the old Raycom sports. No affiliation with ESPN. ESPN3 merely broadcasted their Live TV feed.

Yeah, the ESPN-produced ESPN3 games had superior production quality to that. You don't get the A-list announcers but the broadcast quality (camera, sound, graphics, etc.) is still pretty high.

One thing I noticed during the ODU game was that even though ESPN3 was using the ASN broadcast, the sound quality was noticeably better on WatchESPN than on my cable broadcast.

As others have hit on I think the defensive struggles come from losing 3 not only very talented players but leaders on the defensive side of the ball. Blair was so disruptive that it made the whole defense better and allowed us to get pressure on QBs. Middleton was so athletic and had a high football IQ it just made the back end that much better and he was a sure tackler and Gibbs had a great year last year and had started two years. That's a lot of talent, playing time and experience lost but hopefully guys are starting to figure out their role and continue to get better each week.

Personally I'd like to see run more of the triple option. I know it will never be as awesome as Armanti and KRich, but triple option is usually good for at least 6-8 yards if used at the right time and somewhat sparingly.

I was so happy to find the game on my cable but God that broadcast was horrible. How we can win running 2 plays on offense amazes me. I laughed every time that guy said it. The days of games on PBS were hard to take and that network Saturday was slightly better. The prolonged interview with the MAC Commissioner was awesome-

Yeah, I especially liked "Do you think we might be headed toward a Power Six, with the MAC being part of that group?"

The worst part with the announcers was when they were apparently unaware that a QB is allowed to pitch the ball beyond the line of scrimmage... although the refs didn't seem too clear on that either.

Oh and also the cameras were terrible, both in position (felt like watching the game from a blimp) and quality (sunny areas were totally washed out, could barely see the players at times).

The pitch past the line of scrimmage thing was killing us too. I thought that was pretty common knowledge for anyone with a slight interest in the game.

Hate to belabor that but the play (discussion of it) had me scratching my head. I had no idea a QB could not pitch the ball past the line- as the announcers were claiming. Say what? Yes the shadows were crazy as well. I'm just glad I was able to see the boys play. Just curious about the attendance. It was said on another thread that they expected maybe 5k. Looked sparse

Hope we don't reach that point. Lose a couple of players and just disintegrate. Even though we don't reload don't become a rebuild. Maybe just be a retool.

I see the d issues as more of Woddy's scheme. one can pass at will on us inside of 10 yards. Playing soft allows the 1 yrd completion and run, also playing soft allows the 10 yrd slant. Other than Miami, i like our chances of playing tight and daring to go over the top. The long pass is just hard to complete and gives dline more time to rush. It is sort of like a prevent D all the time.

I giggled seeing the score of the UCA game. We were stationed in central Arkansas..... I know how serious that state takes the Razorbacks and cant imagine the chip on state's shoulder. Seeing them lose to the school I took a class through while enlisted made me grin bigger. My hate for Arkansas State is strong, despite my watching the game last year in a "luxury" box with Jerry Moore before being awarded a new Chevy truck. The jawing on the sunbelt forum from those nuts this summer must be some rancid crow. I just hope They play poorly in the belt, while we take care of business. Go APPS.... screw you entire state of Arkansas.

I really do hope that Arkansas State doesn't dominate their conference games this year given how they've done out of conference (again)...especially losing to Central Arkansas. Ouch!

Their offense was the perfect matchup against our defense. Probably only Troy will have an offense in our Sunbelt slate that even comes close.

I'd say Troy has the better offense, when we meet, we had better be prepared.

I disagree. I believe Akron has the better athletes and match-ups. They had a 6'3 220 lb receiver line up next to a 5'8 170 lb receiver. You have one guy who is going to fly by and the other who is going to fly over and if the defensive backs don't coordinate who is crashing on what route, that could easily spell disaster.

Troy doesn't present that issue, though they do have a better quarterback and a better defense.
