Favorite Black Saturday memories?

Unread post by GastonApp09 » Wed Sep 28, 2016 11:00 am

Let us take a trip down memory lane! Curious as to the rest of yours favorite BS memories? My personal favorite was storming the field in 2011 after a beatdown of #1 Georgia Southern! Thoughts?

Furman the year after we beat them to go to the title was a good one atmosphere wise. We kicked their ass though.

My favorite non FCS playoff game of all time though has to be the Halloween game against Wofford. Wasn't Black Saturday, but loved it.

Was the Furman game in 2002 (Go For 2 game) a Black Saturday game ? If so, that one does it for me.

I couldn't find that out either. That was going to be my first choice. Miracle on the Mountain. The moment I finalized App State would be the school I wanted to attend.

"Appalachian State, where every Saturday in the Fall is BLACK SATURDAY!"

My favorite Black Saturday memory pre-dates the current "once a year" usage. Back in the 80's, I was living in Winston-Salem and we played Wake Forest almost every year. I used to love it when App would lease a couple of billboards in the Winston-Salem area and put up a big sign saying "Black Saturday comes to Grove Stadium on xx/xx/xxxx"

EVERY football game App plays should be BLACK SATURDAY! (Or Thursday....or Wednesday...you get my drift).

2004 Furman game. Richie Williams was 40 for 45 and completed 28 passes in a row. We suffered on the road that season, but that game was outstanding. My neighbors daughters were twin Furman cheerleaders and I took their family to the game and sat in the Furman section so we could watch their daughters cheer. My wife had to keep poking me in the side to shut up. Some old Furman guy in front of me said he was glad they scored and were ahead, but lamented that they left Richie too much time on the clock to which he took us right down the field and scored the winning touchdown with seconds left on the clock. I new the nucleus of that team would be something to see in 2005, especially if we could find a running game. Kevin Richardson was a walk on freshman in 2004.
