My awesome hope has died. Unless Tennessee can win the SEC East and beat Alabama in the championship game.

They are all gone. Tennessee now 5-1, should be 3-3, could be 1-5.
Will be totally blown by Alabama.
May have close game against Kentucky and rest of schedule.
average SEC bowl team at best.
May still win the SEC east.
If they do will be blown out by Alabama twice in one season.

They were undefeated before today weren't they? As for me, I'm still wanting to see UT do really well the rest of the season. The better they look, the better we look.ukappfan wrote:yea. it was a rough game for UT. Time to cheer for Miami.

Just have to ask. Why is it vitally important for those teams to do well? Are we in a position where SOS is needed?

It sure wouldn't hurt things. The better Miami does as well as UT does, the better we look.bigdaddyg wrote:Just have to ask. Why is it vitally important for those teams to do well? Are we in a position where SOS is needed?

I know what you mean. I have to admit part of me wanted Clemson to win it all last year and I couldn't care less about them. It would have made me feel better. I don't think it means a thing otherwise.bcoach wrote:Truth is it makes us feel better.bigdaddyg wrote:Just have to ask. Why is it vitally important for those teams to do well? Re: Tennessee: Luckiest Team in Football
It could mean more for next year and in recruiting than it does for our bowl placement come December.

I will go along with this point. It does nothing for our season this year. But to show a recruit App trading blows with UT and Miami coming to Boone will have impact.AppinVA wrote:It could mean more for next year and in recruiting than it does for our bowl placement come December.

What's the difference between luck and fortune?bigdaddyg wrote:Never been a believer in luck. I believe more in statistical probability and fortune. They have beaten statistical probability and are very fortunate.

I prefer to use any of these words besides lucky. The fumble in the UT game took a favorable bounce to their guy. I wouldn't say lucky. Guess it's just all in how folks view things. I am in Fayetteville and didn't lose power which was fortunate for us but I had a tree fall and hit my house which was unfortunate. It clipped the back and caused some damages- also very unfortunate. I guess I could say I was lucky it didn't fall 10 feet farther to the left which would have been a direct hit to my house. I feel very blessed and fortunate that it didn't.

Re: Tennessee: Luckiest Team in Football
A little belated here but, while it's true ODU hasn't beaten anyone very good, they definitely are improved from last year. Last year their four FBS wins were by a total of 22 points (plus a 14-point win over an FCS). This year their FBS wins have been by 14, 35 and 20 points, plus a 33-point win over an FCS.hapapp wrote:Their real test comes next week against Western Kentucky. They are one win from matching their win total from last year. Like us, they've beaten who they were supposed to beat to this point./\PP ST/\TE GRAD 09 wrote:If you're going to make that point it should be worth mentioning who they beat to get to 4-2. Making a bowl game is not a tough task with today's scheduling practices. Had we not scheduled two P5 schools and replaced Miami with a FCS team we too would be two games away from being Neil eligible. 3-1 OOC which means you have to beat less than half of your conference opponents to make a bowl. Essentially and it's happen in the past, you can have a losing conference record and make a bowl. My point is that the bowl system is so watered down which greatly explains why there are many blow outs.hapapp wrote:ODU is 3-0 in CUSA and just 2 wins from being bowl eligible with a 4-2 record.
The UTSA team they beat by 14 just blew out division favorite Southern Miss, and also lost by only 4 to Arizona State.
ODU is a decent G5 team, and beating them by 24 is looking better and better.

For those interested, Tennessee remains in the top 10 in the AP poll as they stay at #9 this week. They drop two spots to 11 in the coaches' poll.
Miami drops to 16/17.
