Re: 2017 Schedule Speculation
Are we to assume there is some compensation from Akron for this scheduling scramble? If so, does anybody have a guess how much?
Some folks are saying this is not a biggie. Akron my not be a marquee name, but they are G5 peer and look to be on there way to back to back bowl appearances. I think that would move the needle for our knowledgeable base. A lot more than SSU.

And I'm with Goapps15. I don't want an FCS game to be interesting, I want it to be a massacre where we pull our starters early in the third quarter. Whether the victim is Elon or Savannah State makes no difference to me.

Next year's home slate will be 1 or 2 weeknight games, Saturday after Thanksgiving and now a FCS opponent.Saint3333 wrote:We will have at a minimum one mid-week home game probably two in GS and Troy.
2017 - FCS, Wake, ULL, Troy on Wednesday or Thursday, GS on Thursday, and NMSU.
That is going to be a tough sell with the exception of Wake Forest.
I would have rather seen a SoCon team just because they would have brought a bigger fan base than SSU.
With that said, I'll still buy my 4 season tickets.

Western we will not play. The only two SOCON schools I would play are ETSU or Mercer. Outside of those two I have no interest. We need to play an FCS that is a guaranteed win.
No need to play a team who could beat us. Ask Iowa about that one.

Re: 2017 Schedule Speculation
There isn't a single team in the SoCon we wouldn't take to the woodshed. I don't care if it's Savannah State or a SoCon school. They're of the same caliber.
You can look at the FCS playoff results since we left to see how that league plummeted after Southern and App left for the Land of Milk and Honey. It's a one-bid league at this point. Their conference champ hasn't sniffed a national championship game since App won in the 2007 season.
NDSU would be a very tough game. A SoCon team would be a glorified BYE.

Do we really want to stomp crap teams 70-0? I don't get much out of that personally. I would rather us beat so-so SB teams by 2-3 scoresGonzo wrote:There isn't a single team in the SoCon we wouldn't take to the woodshed. I don't care if it's Savannah State or a SoCon school. If that's our easy game I'm fine with it. Especially if it's between UGA and Wake. We need to keep guys healthy.bigdaddyg wrote:Do we really want to stomp crap teams 70-0? A game against North Dakota State would be interesting, if a FCS game is being considered.

I wish the Sun Belt would limit each team to one home weekday game per season and two total games per year. It does a number on attendance to do two home games per year.

Re: 2017 Schedule Speculation
Does anyone know if that TV money is more than what we would make on a home Sat.? Thought i heard $250k which is alot less than what we make. IMO we cannot afford these midweek games, they cost us too much money./\PP ST/\TE GRAD 09 wrote:They want that ESPN money tho.TheMackAttack wrote:Boone Goon wrote:Next year's home slate will be 1 or 2 weeknight games, Saturday after Thanksgiving and now a FCS opponent.Saint3333 wrote:We will have at a minimum one mid-week home game probably two in GS and Troy.

I don't mind Savannah State. I see it as a space filler in case something better comes along. If it does, then the buyout will not be that bad.

Re: 2017 Schedule Speculation
I was under the impression we were hosting Coastal in a conference game in 2017 and that they would knock one of this year's road teams off the rotation? I don't like two weeknight games but when money talks, what are ya gonna do?

Agreed with EastHallApp here. Why play any FCS team you could lose to? That's how Jim Grobe did it at Wake.EastHallApp wrote:Interesting, yes. Also, an absolutely horrible idea.WataugaMan wrote:A game against North Dakota State would be interesting, if a FCS game is being considered.

This is true. We play Coastal at home in 2017 so we won't play Troy.luvyosef wrote:I was under the impression we were hosting Coastal in a conference game in 2017 and that they would knock one of this year's road teams off the rotation?
