This very easily could of been a shutout if our offense didn't stumble a couple times, early in the game. Kudos to not blinking when down 10. Confidence is really showing with this team.

I wonder how many recruits were at that game and I wonder how many we were able to "steal" away

The other aspect here that is being overlooked is how our guys were able to bounce back from the early mistakes and get back on track. Many teams would have folded or would have continued to play down to their opponent with the 1st quarter start we had last night.

Re: Great win for the boys!!
I think Coach Satt will be around for awhile. If you remember he left App, much to the chagrin of everyone paying attention to go learn the ropes elsewhere with the intent of replacing the GOAT, Jerry Moore. His heart bleeds Black and Gold and no one understands this team, the University, the town, and its fans like Coach Satt. Sure, if a team approached him with a $1.5 million paycheck he'd probably be gone, but I think he wants to be here and he wants to build a championship team here at App. His whole life for the most part since 1993 has been App State and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Re: Great win for the boys!!
The crap teams in the SB who are paying their coaches way more than Satt are the problem. If we take the SB championship this year and win our bowl game how can we not give him a huge restructuring? Are we going to reach the point where we just hit a ceiling- meaning that we simply aren't going to increase attendance that much more, the conference will be what it is and our bowl options won't get much better? We will just have to hope that you are right, love for this school and program keeps him here.appaneer1984 wrote:I think Coach Satt will be around for awhile. I'm sure Gillin is well aware of this situation...Coach Satt is a die-hard Moutaineer for sure...but he's gots to get paid...Gillin's gonna have to come up with the moola...if we win out the rest of the season including the bowl game, Satt's gonna be on a lot of short lists (which he prob already is) for openings...and there are always openings in college football.bigdaddyg wrote:The crap teams in the SB who are paying their coaches way more than Satt are the problem. I am more worried about Woody leaving. He has made our d a power. Only a matter of time before someone comes for him.Rick83 wrote:I'm sure Gillin is well aware of this situation...Coach Satt is a die-hard Moutaineer for sure...but he's gots to get paid...Gillin's gonna have to come up with the moola...if we win out the rest of the season including the bowl game, Satt's gonna be on a lot of short lists (which he prob already is) for openings...and there are always openings in college football.bigdaddyg wrote:The crap teams in the SB who are paying their coaches way more than Satt are the problem. Re: Great win for the boys!!
Nate will have a difficult time deciding to leave unless he goes somewhere with Scott. Football programs and fans are not known for their patience and it takes a while to build a 3-4 defense. Doesn't matter where he gets offered, you have to have not only athletes but smart athletes to learn and execute his system. Remember all the "Fire Woody" threads in those first two years? Scott knew what and how long it could take, and allowed it to happen. Very few higher level schools run a true 3-4 now and Nate is a smart guy. He knows that he might leave only to find himself out of a job in a couple of years. There's a reason he was at Wofford for 22 years (13 as DC) and it's not just because it was his alma mater. He's gotten offers the last two years and he's still here. But as with all successful coaches at our level we'll just have to wait and see.ukappfan wrote:I am more worried about Woody leaving. A most enjoyable win last night and the defense was just WOW.
Enjoying reading all the misery on the Gnats message boards. They want to fire everyone....and now.

Re: Great win for the boys!!
That's something I've continually noticed with Satt's teams these last few years. The coaches seem to have a calm, "we've got this" no worries attitude even when we get down. It looks like it trickles down to the players as well. Ga Southern smacked us in the mouth early in Boone last year, but we came right back and blew them out of the house with no problems. I haven't seen any sort of panic out of our teams.ASUGoose wrote:The other aspect here that is being overlooked is how our guys were able to bounce back from the early mistakes and get back on track. Re: Great win for the boys!!
I hope you're right firemoose, BTW there was just a USA Today piece that states Satterfield's salary is 102nd highest paid in FBS and SEVENTH in the Funbelt. The good news is he signed a 5 year contract extension last season; however, I wonder what the termination provisions are? In other words, is it a one-sided termination like the Buzz Peterson contract back in the day where App was committed but he was free to leave without penalty? Just wondering if anyone has intel...I'd hate to see Coach Satt leave. His leadership as we've transitioned into FBS has been miraculous...that just doesn't happen all by itself. I truly believe that relatively soon, assuming we're able to keep Satt and his coaches in place, that we'll be the next Houston or Boise State being discussed nationally. This probably would be happening now if the freak loss against Tennesse had gone differently. With our tradition, fan base, campus and game-day atmoshere...we've got all the pieces in place. Believe and ye shall receive...amen.firemoose wrote:Nate will have a difficult time deciding to leave unless he goes somewhere with Scott. The problem is that the teams that will eventually come looking for him will have no problem giving 1.5 and more for his services. He has to have one of the best winning percentages of G5 schools in the last few years. And all those wins came during a period of transition to the top tier football level. What he and the staff have done is very impressive and it won't be long before he is on everyones radar, if he isn't already.

Re: Great win for the boys!!
$1.5 million is barely the floor for P5 jobs. Just about all of them pay $2 million and up. A number of G5s can meet or exceed $1.5 million.t4pizza wrote:appaneer1984 wrote:I think Coach Satt will be around for awhile. My hope has always been that we can compensate him enough that he will at least wait for the right job rather than leaving for another G5 or a P5 doormat.
