First choice for Bowl game opponent
Who would be your first choice opponent for bowl game matchup?
If they would drop/ lose a game and we win out.......I would love the chance of playing Western Michigan.
I would love the chance for us to take down another Flacco. QB Tom Flacco is Joe's younger brother.

As much as I'd like to see Western Michigan, I don't care to hear the ESPN guys say "row the boat" over and over and over and...

Don't think WMU is a possibility. I think whoever wins the MAC, which will be WMU will face an AAC team.

Lots of season left, it takes one VMI game to screw everything up, but just for fun, here are the projections from several news outlets:

SI: New Orleans vs Middle Tenn State
Bleacher Report: New Orleans vs Southern Miss
College football news: Arizona Bowl vs Air Force

Re: First choice for Bowl game opponent
I think they will send Troy or Arkansas State to New Orleans because of geography. I think we end up in Mobile against the MAC Champ. Unfortunately, it looks like W Michigan will be playing on New Year's, so it could possibly be against the MAC East Champ, currently the...

EDIT: NO passed on the champion several years in a row back in the early 2010s. I think the requirement at this time was that NO was required to take the champ only if they could not be placed elsewhere. Basically guaranteeing the champ a bowl game. Last year, the champs Arkansas State were a good fit. It seems that they will attempt to align geographically as much as possible (hence Georgia Southern being picked over us for Mobile in 2015).

Re: First choice for Bowl game opponent
See I have been doing some tease arch and I think if we win the sun belt we will most likely go to New Orleans to play that bowl but I think if the cure bowl wants us we would choose that bowl ove New Orleans because we can have a lot more fans there in Orlando I have nothing against New Orleans but I think our fans including me would be happy playing in Florida about playing WMU very doubtful unless they lose a game we have a better chance of playing southern miss than WMU I would like to play USF or a team out of the AAC that would be a great matchup because of all the talent the AAC has so good luck to u all but that's my projections

Re: First choice for Bowl game opponent
I would love to see a matchup with a ranked WMU but as stated above (more than once) that is unlikely. Many of our fans wouldn't appreciate what a great match up that would be but it would be great from a national exposure perspective. Southern Miss would be a great game and I would love a chance for some redemption for our 2014 loss. I think I saw one projection that had us against La Tech in NO. I would like that match up simply because La Tech has owned the Belt over the past few years (ULL and Arkansas State) and it would give us a chance to shut them up (hopefully) for a little while.

Re: First choice for Bowl game opponent
I'd love to play WMU after watching their defense give up over 200 rushing yards in the first 20 minutes of the game. Had Ball State not had a ridiculous number of penalties, and just a little bit of pass defense that game would have been much different.
If Arkansas State is eligible along with Troy I think we end up in Montgomery or Orlando. Personally those would be my preference if New Orleans is out of the picture as Mobile is on a tough date.

I think history has shown that they will. Do you know something we don't?WVAppsfan wrote:They will not pass on App in New Orleans
EDIT: I don't mean to be condescending. You just seem so definitive with that statement.

Re: First choice for Bowl game opponent
If I understand the SB tie-in bowl arrangement - the #1 tie-in DOES NOT have to take the #1 team - therefore, I see them taking the closest team who will bring the most fans - Not APP. - I would say we will go to the bowl which has the 3rd choice, possibly 2nd - Can anyone shed some light on this? ---

Re: First choice for Bowl game opponent
New Orleans made it very obvious for years that, if ULL is eligible, they will get invited. With ULL struggling and attendance dropping, they probably wouldn't get the invitation this year even if they become eligible but I fully expect the New Orleans to pick a team who is closer and whom they believe would travel best. That would most likely be Arkansas State or Troy.
