It leaked last year because there were only 3 bowl eligible teams prior to this last weekend of the season. GaSt wins and slides into the Cure. Last year was easy. This is about as complicated as it gets.kiddbrewer wrote:If I remember, it leaked out early last year.
We are in need of someone to take over the maintenance of the MMB. Yosef has done it for a long time, and we are grateful for all he has done, but life happens and he no longer has the time to devote to its upkeep. If anyone here is interested in helping to keep the board running, please let me know via DM.

SI and Fox are predicting the SBC takes the ACC open slot at St Petersburg against Houston with Mandel at Fox saying App takes the spot.
How about App v Houston?!?! Great opportunity for the program!

Re: Predict the bowls
It came out on Wednesday last year, but I don't think we'll get that lucky this year with all the complications and teams eligibility hanging in the balance. I think if it was a guarantee that we wouldn't have more than 5 league teams eligible, then it could be arranged early.kiddbrewer wrote:If I remember, it leaked out early last year.

I would LOVE that, but I'd worry about their uptempo offense. We know how that's been a struggle.AppfaninCAALand wrote:SI and Fox are predicting the SBC takes the ACC open slot at St Petersburg against Houston with Mandel at Fox saying App takes the spot.

Whoever they play, they might be preparing with half a coaching staff though.HeffnerIV wrote:I would LOVE that, but I'd worry about their uptempo offense. Re: Predict the bowls
I did make it to Montgomery last year, had so much fun, plan on going to every App bowl game in the future if possible. Really wish the destination will come out before sunday so we all can start making plans.EastHallApp wrote:Welcome to the site. App won't publicly announce exact numbers, but it is definitely a factor in the selection process. Don't know if you made the trip last year, but it was a blast. I'm sure it will be again this year regardless of destination.CoachRob wrote:Just signed up, Graduated in '10, been a season ticket holder for 4 years now.
Question: Any way we know of the total ticket purchases for each bowl from either goasu.com or the ticket office ... and how much does that go into the decision process of our bowl?
I already purchased two for each bowl destination. Really hoping for Orlando because of the cite. Montgomery is an easy drive/trip. NO would be the most fun but also most expensive. Like the possible matchup in Mobile of a good MAC team and being only football game on that night. I'm just excited and ready to make a return trip to a bowl! Go Apps!

Re: Predict the bowls
Gillin on Mountaineer talk seems to think the NO bowl goes to ULL or App. That makes sense as CUSA "sources" are saying S. Miss. to NO and they wanted schedule a rematch with Troy.

Re: Predict the bowls
It's not because of the NCAA so much, but yes they're all about money. They're trying to sell tickets and hotel rooms and draw TV viewers. They don't need the NCAA to tell them that; it's why the bowl system exists in the first place.WVAPPeer wrote:The NCAA sanctions the bowls therefore all participants know it's about the $$$hapapp wrote:The NCAA doesn't have a role bowl selection.WVAPPeer wrote:I agree EastHall but we all must keep in mind this is the NCAA where $$$ talks ---

Haha my apologies. It's great to finally meet a fellow Mountaineer who never leaves unless it threatens your life. I just hate to see fans and students leaving b/c we're blowing the team away or b/c it's "too cold". Which game are you referring to? The Furman/ASU playoff game in '05? If so, then I don't blame you.AppAlum1 wrote:Who you callin' dumb? FYI, I NEVER leave a game early, except for the one time at KBS when the icy/sleet mix was blowing back into my face.
Vegas would be fun, though! Doubtful that is our bowl game. More likely, it will be Orlando.
Believe it or not, more journalists are predicting us for the Vegas bowl. I prefer Orlando but hey, what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas so why not?

I was at the 2005 games (to the end), as were my wife, & sons (who were 10 & 12).MountaineerChemist10 wrote:Haha my apologies. I think the game we left early was last year. I could have handled the cold, & even the sleet. But, that was the only game ever where the wind actually blew back towards the West stands. So, regardless of attire, the sleet just blew back in our face. So, we left about mid-3rd quarter.
You remind me of a funny story though. In 2004, we played Western away & LOST!!!. I'm pretty sure this occurred during Richie Williams' junior season, so that was 2004. Anyway, we got up to the 'Whee, and we were prepared for the rain. And, rain it did. In buckets, with wind that blew it sideways. Sons & wife & I were attired in our best rain gear, but even then, the rain & wind was pushing it through the seams of our gear. Wife, who was nursing a small cold, announced around halftime, that she was going back to the car to listen to the rest of the game in the dry. She asked the boys (ages: 9 & 11) (but not me) if any one wanted to go back to the car with her. No response, except they did sort of look at her like she was crazy!
Best part of this story: We returned home late that night, and I posted the above story on the message board (predecessor to MMB). Next poster (don't recall who) posted: RAISED EM RIGHT!
Man, that made my day right there. And, yes we did.

It was Southern Illinois in '05 - went in the old bathroom under the scoreboard late in that game and one of their fans had one of the funniest lines I have heard - Tender ears beware ---

Re: Predict the bowls
And then there's this:
Navy win could 'paralyze' bowl system
http://www.espn.com/college-football/st ... owl-system
Wrote about this in my column this week. Basically, the short version is that if Navy wins the AAC title, they'll be in the running for the NY6 bid. But they still have the Army game the following Saturday, which means the Cotton Bowl bid (and, by extension, a domino effect of other bowls) could be delayed. (This article says "sources say" that will in fact happen if Navy beats Temple Saturday.)
Since the other top NY6 contender is a MAC team, and two of the Sun Belt bowls feature MAC tie-ins, this could affect App.
Other thing I take from this is that if Navy does win their last two, they're going to the Cotton Bowl even over a 13-0 Western Michigan. No reason to cause all these headaches if you're just going to give WMU the bid anyway.

Another example of why college football has the most asinine, corrupt postseason in all of sports.

Asinine, I agree with; but, corrupt, no.AppGrad78 wrote:Another example of why college football has the most asinine, corrupt postseason in all of sports.
Care to explain what you meant? If all you mean is that everything is driven by money -- puh-lease. So what is the problem with that?
(I like money.) If you meant something else, please elaborate.
