Sad news
I was just informed that Stan Braswell passed away last night. Stan was a fixture at App games. He was in Montgomery for the Camellia bowl. I am proud to have called Stan a friend for over twenty years. He will be missed at all App sporting events.

Stan was just simply an awesome human. His brother Harvey was my dads boss and passed away 6 months ago. Stan wore a sign around him at the intersection of 321 and 105 were the Wendy's is looking for a kidney donor for his brother. He was a huge App fan and an even better person. He will be missed.

I met Stan at a football game 23 years ago. We've been sitting together since. There was no bigger App fan than Stan. Tailgates won't be the same without him. Sorry to hear this about Stan. He was definitely a true mountaineer. I don't get to attend many games these days due to distance from Boone, but when I lived in Rutherfordton we picked Stan up in Marion several times to go to games. He also attended the Wofford game in Spartanburg years ago when it was hot as hell and we lost. He knew an awful lot about App and was a lot of fun to be around. He will be missed. I also got to work with him some when he was the Recreation Director in McDowell County and I helped him apply for some grant funding for land acquisition. Stan was an awesome Mountaineer. Really, I can't believe I'm writing these words. Yesterday I was a poll bearer at Stan's funeral. He died unexpectedly on 12/28/16. With all due respect to mountaineer fans, Appalachian lost a treasure with Stan's passing. Stan graduated in 1973. He was a Yosef member for I don't know 30 years or so. He has been at most of the milestone games Apps ever played since then. Whether it was the 75 season when we beat USC, ECU and Wake in the same season, or the undefeated 95 season, the sad game against WCU in 2004, the three National Championships or two Camellia Bowl games. When Stan finally retired he bought a place in Newland maybe three years ago. He now was in heaven. He was close to the mother ship. He became a season ticket holder for both basketball teams as well as baseball and football. To say he loved anything Apps would be doing him a disservice. Stan gave his all for an institution he loved dearly. Stan was a dear friend. Stan was affectionately Known at our house as "Stan Stan the ASU Man" for years my kids never knew Stan's last name. He had a black and gold casket, a block A in yellow flowers, and an ASU lapel pin on his suit. I will greatly miss my friend. He would always close our conversations with Go Apps... Go Apps Stan.

I live in Marion and knew Stan for many years. I was also at the funeral. I have been to a lot of funerals in my life but I have to say that Stan's was the most incredible one I have ever been to. When I opened the front door to the church I could hear the ASU fight song being played. I spoke to the family and they said that Stan had written down everything he wanted at his funeral including playing the fight song. I agree with all of you that also knew him, App lost a great ambassador and a great friend. Black and Gold forever my friend!! Go APPS.
