Re: Western Michigan
That was bad for us and any G5 school who goes undefeated in the future. Respect is earned, not given.

Agreed, I think we win a head to head match up.
I believe the MAC finished 0-6 in bowl games...Ouch!

Re: Western Michigan
Not sure how losing to a top Big Ten school by 8 points, leaves you to believe we are a better football team. Our team couldn't handle the hype of a home game against Miami what leads you to think we could have handled the hype of a game this large? I love App State football to the fullest, but discrediting what Western Michigan did this year by saying we are a better team just isn't fair. Especially when we beat Toledo by only 3 after a chip shot field goal was missed.

Re: Western Michigan
They were in the game until the end and have nothing to be ashamed of. They came nowhere near to looking totally outclassed like Ohio State.

Man, I need to know where I can buy some of those black and gold lenses some of you are wearing.
Western Michigan lost by one TD to a team that was better than anyone we played all year. They also beat Toledo like a drum.
Wondering how much crossover there is between the people saying Western Michigan looked awful today and the ones who say things like "we just had one bad quarter!" when someone like Clemson or Michigan shows mercy and only beats us by around 30.

Re: Western Michigan
My point is if we want to see more G5 teams in the NY6 games we needed Western Michigan to win today.

Re: Western Michigan
G5 isn't going to lose its auto bid because of that, and they'll almost never get an at-large bid. So it will still be one G5 team per year regardless.Boone Goon wrote:My point is if we want to see more G5 teams in the NY6 games we needed Western Michigan to win today.
FWIW, G5/non-AQ teams have done very well in BCS/NY6 games. Haven't looked it up lately, but they're well above .500 IIRC.

Re: Western Michigan
I don't think they'd boat race us but they certainly have the advantage at the skill positions (outside of RB). IMO it would be a pretty low scoring game. Both offenses can really grind the clock and I think we match up with them much better than Toledo did.

Re: Western Michigan
There are obviously flaws to both sides of this argument but one thing all of the "bbbbut WMU beat Toledo" people fail to mention that App beat Southern worse than WMU did. The transitive property doesn't work in football.

True. The only thing more useless than citing the transitive property is citing the transitive property when both teams blew out the common opponent but one blew them out by a few more points.ericsaid wrote:There are obviously flaws to both sides of this argument but one thing all of the "bbbbut WMU beat Toledo" people fail to mention that App beat Southern worse than WMU did. It's not one game. WMU was better than App over the course of a 13-game season, as any rating system will reflect. We could certainly beat them on a given day, but to conclude that we're better than them because they lost a tough one to Wisconsin just has no basis in reality.

Re: Western Michigan
I agree totally - they were within 7 and didn't play well - what was it, 4 fumbles in the 4th Q? (didn't lose them all) ---EastHallApp wrote:True. Re: Western Michigan
WMU got off to a slow start but gave the Badgers a fight to the end. They had a better season than App this year and are not to be discredited. They represented the G5 pretty well against what will be a top 6 team in the final rankings.

Re: Western Michigan
The non-power teams have won plenty of games going back to the BCS days the first two years of the CFP. WMU didn't do anything to hurt the G5 schools. I was proud of how they fought back and made a game of it after the slow start.Boone Goon wrote:My point is if we want to see more G5 teams in the NY6 games we needed Western Michigan to win today.

Yep - and that WR missed the pass in the endzone - it was a tough catch but catchable for sure ---
