Re: Football Scoop: Coach Blalock not returning/Jones not DC
Actually I was not agreeing with anyone just making a statement on the use of stats. I think I do agree with WV's position but I interpret it to be different than you do. If he is saying that we as fans come up with stats to justify our position on wanting to fire coaches then I agree. If he is saying that it should not be us deciding on firing coaches but up to the head coach or AD then I also agree. I just didn't interpret his comment as coaches can't be fired. If that was his stand I would disagree. So I guess it is all in the interpretation.GlassOnion wrote:Ahh, I thought you were agreeing with WV's position in general, which seems to be: "no one on the staff should be fired ever, and if you agree with firing them, youre a bad bad man," and supporting it with "Look! Eight conference wins!" when the ultimate goal of the program is to win NCs, and we've been ousted first round 3 years in a row now, giving up 38 points per contest.bcoach wrote: I was not referring to any particular game, nor was I referring to any particular coach. Just an observation on the use of stats. I didn't say it was not eligable for use just that they can be manipulated for a particular use. I understand now your refrence but when it comes to coaches I don't have a dog in the fight. I do wish that our DBs would be coached to turn and look for the ball but maybe that could be done without firing the coach.
National Championships are the ultimate goal of our program, not Socon championships, and not 1/3 of a Socon championship. A number of people here seem content on lowering the bar to reach it.
With all that said one of the reasons I favor FCS is that I want to play for National Championships. That is my goal. Anything short leaves me a little empty but 8 wins and a conference championship does not drive me to want to fire the coaches. It does want me to see improvement. I don't find myself qualified to determine if a coach should be fired.
Now should I sit here and wait for the attacks on me for liking FCS or wait and come back later?

This isnt about posters deciding who to fire, its about us having an opinion on the subject, and the freedom to discuss it without someone getting self righteous on us.bcoach wrote: If he is saying that we as fans come up with stats to justify our position on wanting to fire coaches then I agree.

And no, Im not content with the FCS. I cannot draw a line, exclude 100+ programs that compete at a higher level, and then claim to be the best of whats left.

I have no problem with you having an opinion. I also didn't ask you to be content with FCS. I don't consider us to be whats left. I consider us to be an FCS program. I don't feel I have to try and put someone down for liking FBS. We don't agree and that is ok. As an example I don't consider the bottom half of FBS where we can never compete for a National Championship very exciting. To me a bowl is a step below a conference championship. To me it dosen't mean a thing. To me it is just a non conference game but some people think they are great. We have differences and that is ok.

I dont own an x-box. Dont really care if you coached or played either, there are plenty of idiots doing both, so I'll rely on my own observations thank you.WVAPPeer wrote:- he can't handle the fact that I was once a player and coach while he has played x-box

Im not putting FCSers down. Its simply the way I see it. I want to see the best football possible at App. That doesnt include NC A&T, Savannah St, Coastal Carolina or whomever.bcoach wrote: I have no problem with you having an opinion. As I said I don't have a dog in the fight.

Im also tired of answering the questions "Who is Wofford?" or "Elon has football team? " or "What is a Furman?"

Winning the FCS National Championship is sorta like winning the NIT in basketball.

So where do you put a non-BCS bowl game? I'm decidedly pro-FBS but I don't understand the delight in denigrating our 3 NCs.Kgfish wrote:I have never seen a more appropriate description. Bravo!AppAttack wrote:Winning the FCS National Championship is sorta like winning the NIT in basketball.
Re: Football Scoop: Coach Blalock not returning/Jones not DC
Winning a non-BCS bowl game is like making it to the Sweet Sixteen. You didn't come close to winning the ultimate prize, but it's still better than winning the NIT.hapapp wrote:So where do you put a non-BCS bowl game? I didn't mean to dismiss our 3 NC's at all, they are very special to me. That night against N. Iowa was one of the best memories of my life. In fact I didn't want us to move up until we won one. Now that we made history and won 3 in a row, and win our conference virtually every year, what else is left? Move up.

I'm pro-FBS but I disagree. Unless we won a legit New Year's or later bowl the titles will rank above other bowls.
If you are pro-FBS because of the postseason I don't understand that perspective.

Before we won our first FCS title, FCS title > non-BCS bowl. Now that we've won a few, non-BCS bowl > more FCS titles.

It is amazing how that works in some peoples minds.

Re: Football Scoop: Coach Blalock not returning/Jones not DC
It is just all in how you look at it. To many of us a bowl is a bowl. There is no difference between a BCS and a non BCS bowl. A bowl of any kind is just another non conference game. We play much better teams most every year than we ever will in a bowl. here is the deal though. We all win because those of us who like the FCS format have been able to enjoy it for a long time now and those who like FBS will get to enjoy that in the future. Ain't life grand?

No denigration at all. It's a matter of perspective. You probably see the NIT as a losers tournament. I don't. Winning the NIT is a good accomplishment, but not nearly as good as the NCAA tournament.hapapp wrote:So where do you put a non-BCS bowl game? Re: Football Scoop: Coach Blalock not returning/Jones not DC
Same goes with the pro-FCS crowd. How you sacrifice 11-12 games for a 4 game tournament is beyond me. If the playoffs are such a big deal why is attendance at playoff games so bad? Don't give me the Christmas party, Thanksgiving weekend stuff. I watched FBS games all Thanksgiving weekend that were packed. ASU has been regularly involved in the playoffs for 30 years, so it should come as no surprise we might have a home game the first few weekends following the season. Where is the passion and support our fans are known for? Much in the same way I am perplexed by how more ASU fans show up at Michigan, VA Tech, and Florida than most of those all important conference games.Saint3333 wrote:I'm pro-FBS but I disagree. " I watched FBS games all Thanksgiving weekend that were packed."
I would say the main reason is that is a game included in season ticket packets - has already been paid for ---
