From what I have learned over the last 6 months I am not surprised we don't create and host our own website. Don't think we have the capacity to do so.bcoach wrote:I wonder why we don't.Saint3333 wrote:We could have the marketing and IT department run a webpage and it be an upgrade.
In my opinion, the entire university IT systems need an overhaul. In the IT world all facets of the University operates in the stoneage. The servers are so small, mass e-mail communications have to be coordinated through a single office. If the Chancellor sends a University wide e-mail to all constituents that effectively shuts everthing down and it is the only communication that can go out on that particular day.
Where I think the University could benefit is fixing the IT infrastructure and systems and build a complete database that can be accessed in a way that is usable for all departments (athletics, alumni, student affairs, parents association, etc.). Currently each has essentially their own database and they don't "talk" to each-other. Any current sharing of info has to be done manually.
Solving this can open up new doors for donors for all areas of the University. Since the lists are currently unique to each "owner" it's no wonder many of us have said for years it seems the University keeps "going to the same well, over and over."
