Well deserved! Kid looks like the jewel of that recruiting class right now!

He was beat too many times for me to classify him as that. It is the nature of the position but to me Darrynton Evans showed up and showed out nearly every game he was given enough opportunities. He didn't turn the ball over and consistently hit on big plays with limited opportunity. At any rate, I expect both players will be discussed as potential draft picks in a couple of years.

Take note that after the Tennessee game that Duck was likely the best NFL prospect on App's roster.

Duck season long had much more of an impact than Evans. I believe Evans is going to be a solid performer and perhaps a star. His biggest contribution to the season was the 94 yard KO return for a TD. Statistically, he didn't blow one away otherwise. Frankly, until the TD he didn't really show much as a returner, only averaging 19 yds per return. I do suspect that his talents will be used to a greater degree next year as he can contribute in so many ways.

I don't know...call it a wacky thought but given that we only played 2 true freshmen out of a class of 23 maybe we ought to wait until they all go through Spring Ball (Duck was the only one that played this year that went through last year) and a full offseason with Mike (Duck and Duffey being the only two who did that last year) before we declare jewels or get too critical of play. They were true freshmen after all and I think both did very well given that fact. But that's just me.

Duck had 5 INT's as a freshman. The hit he put on Penny of GSU is not to be forgotten either. App should have two great CB's starting next year.

Just hope Gibbs makes it back. Haven't seen him in our student database yet, but Upshaw is in the database.

Getting beaten - and - having the receiver make a great catch on a perfectly thrown ball are two totally different categories ---

Upshaw was still enrolled this fall I believe, but didn't qualify to play. Not sure Gibbs status, but everything I've heard says he is coming back. Hopefully that's true.

He was beat quite a few times on plays that didn't require a great catch. He is great if it doesn't require following the receiver down the field however he is one of the best i've seen in an App uniform covering intermediate routes. If you didn't notice I also commented on how I do believe he is the best NFL prospect App has at this point.

Yes I saw that but I also see All-Pro CBs trailing receivers down field. I am not saying he was never beaten but several of the long completions against him he had the receiver còvered

The Virgil kid has a very high ceiling. We just had too many options this year not to red shirt him. Like Moose said, Spring ball and the teams competition with Mike could make things very interesting with him. Hope he stays healthy.

Recruiting is so funny. Duck and Evans were two of our bottom four ranked recruits last year. If that were to turn out true we have A LOT to be excited about going forward.

Can't wait to see the rest of that class at WR, OL, DE, etc.

Being able to red shirt that many players is great sign of the state of our program.
