For those of us who remember the Brakefield years and witnessed the rise of Mountaineer Football, this might bring back some memories. Phil could sling it as a drop back passer but had a time with Coach's wishbone. Obviously he has done well!

If I'm not mistaken, he came off the bench in the last couple of minutes of the ECU game in 1974 to put us in position for Jerry Harmon's 47 yard field goal that won the game. One heck of a game my senior year.

I remember the ECU game the same way so I believe you are correct.

I was on the sideline for that one. We led 20-0 at the half, Pat Dye got them fired up and they took the lead at 20-21. That 47 yarder was probably one of the biggest field goals in App history until Gary beat Wake with his field goal the next season. Good times.....good times.
