MBB vs Monroe
Men's Basketball taking on Monroe at home in a few hours. ULM is the only team in the league with a record worse then ours, but given how this season has gone, we can't take anything for granted.
It sounds ridiculous (especially after the Southern Alabama game) but I'm still holding out hope that we can win a couple games in the Sun Belt tournament and this game will be important if we want that to occur. I don't imagine much of a difference between the #10 and #11 seed. Either way we're probably opening up against a team we haven't beaten this season. But after that initial game we'll likely be playing back-to-back games against teams we've already beaten once before leaving a possible UTA matchup until last.
We're a better team then ULM (one of the few we can say that about) and there's no excuse if we can't hold up at home. Their offensive stats are abysmal. As long as we limit turnovers and don't chock up three after three, I think we take this.
I mentioned during the UTA game we were #153 in the country at 3-point shots, but needed to prioritize the individuals on our teams taking those shots. Worth noting we've dropped to #176 through today.
That's even with Patrick Good is shooting a monster 45%+
If Babic/Isaac Johnson/Tyrell Johsnon are taken out the team goes from #176 to #100~. Babic has sixty-one attempts shooting sub 30%....

Re: MBB vs Monroe
Majority of this years contributing team is only a couple years old. Hard to bring in talent when your team has been put at the bottom of the country from the previous staff. Hard to recruit to come to one of the worst teams in the country. It takes years and years to get back. Fox is doing a great job building! But the man has not had much to build from. Next year we are bringing back most of everyone productive. Once he can get these guys to be juniors and seniors and have a couple at least semi productive seasons with them, it will help getting higher level recruits to commit, and repeat. This is a marathon, so tired of everyone being so negative about this team. Fox has not been given a job of Re-Building, he has to dig out of the rubble, climb out, and then he can start to Re-Building. I am frustrated too, but it is not this team or this coaches fault.

I usually would agree with you but the team has really struggled and only gotten worse over the course of the season. It's not an easy job but fans should be embarrassed.HBTApps wrote:Majority of this years contributing team is only a couple years old. Thank you. Someone else, or even maybe you, has posted virtually the same thing a while back and several have thanked you, deservedly. People want Rome to be built in a day. It doesn't happen that way. Or else people just like to rag on coaches when they don't perform miracles. This board was full of folks calling for Coach Satterfield's head when we looked so bad his first year. Now, some of those same people are voicing fear that he might leave.HBTApps wrote:Majority of this years contributing team is only a couple years old. I'm betting that if we are patient enough, that in a few years, we'll be fearful of losing him like Satterfield.Goapps15 wrote:I usually would agree with you but the team has really struggled and only gotten worse over the course of the season. Re: MBB vs Monroe
I fully understand what everyone is saying about Coach Fox. I understand he inherited a total mess. I understand he has not had enough time to bring in better recruits. The few times I have met Coach Fox I have found him to be a very personable individual. I REALLY want him to succeed. But today was just another example of failure. He stood on the sidelines and allowed his team to jack up 3’s all over the place. The team attempted 38 three point shots. They made 9 of them. These guys would embarrass William Cook with taking that many three’s. I hope in a few years we are fearful of losing him. But he needs to get control of the team he has. There is no reason in the world to stand and watch those guys squander that many shots. We had the lead and let it slip away. They are playing street ball. If he doesn’t take control of what he has got we are not going to get the opportunity to fear losing him.

Re: MBB vs Monroe
I've been on the positive side/give coach a chance/we're really young, etc. but I have no words for this one. I only watched the first half and ULM looked like an easy win. Their players looked like they were sweating profusely and gasping for air not even half way through the first half, and we still lost. Monroe actually looked like they don't have a conditioning program.

It is true that Coach Fox inherited a mess. It is true we are one of the youngest teams in the country. It is also true that only one other team in the Belt shootouts worse than we do. It is also true that only one other team allows opponents to shoot better and score more than we do. These are all reasons we reside at the bottom of the league.

Re: MBB vs Monroe
I can rationalize every thing Coach Fox does except the incessant three pointers. As I've said before, shooting an inordinate number of three's only works if you have a solid inside game to keep the opponents defenses honesthapapp wrote:It is true that Coach Fox inherited a mess. That's the problem with our basketball program. Anytime we get good, the coach will bolt. It's also hard being a football first school.NewApp wrote:I'm betting that if we are patient enough, that in a few years, we'll be fearful of losing him like Satterfield.Goapps15 wrote:I usually would agree with you but the team has really struggled and only gotten worse over the course of the season. Not saying you are wrong but it has been a disappointing year. You can still like fox and think it will work. Doesn't mean it hasn't been disappointing.

I'd estimate the likelihood App fires Fox after this season at 0%. He's playing the freshman more minutes the last ten games which will pay off next season.

I don't expect Fox to be "burning down the house" at this point. However, home losses to the west carolina and UL Monroe's of the world are getting out of hand. At this point we should be winning those type of games, particularly at home, I don't believe that's asking for too much.

Yes, but then what does back to back home wins against two of the SB's top teams tell you? ---WataugaMan wrote:I don't expect Fox to be "burning down the house" at this point.
